Default Replacement Spoiler

I have a 2005 WRX and I want to get an STI spoiler. Is it just a case of buying one and swapping it with the existing spoiler? I've read various things online so it's hard to know what to believe. Would I ned to drill extra holes in the boot lid or even replace the whole boot?

Hi yea you will need to drill holes bud. The STI spoilers have multiple holes. Depends if your buyer an after market spoiler or not, As the aftermarket ones may just have 4 holes like the WRX has.

Other opition is too buy a complete boot lid with spoiler fitted, sure Matty has one.

I'm no expert but you might need uprated springs to keep the boot open due to the additional weight.

Yea you might be right, think Newage STI models have different torsion bars than the WRX for holding the boot lid up.

Saying that my classic has an STI spoiler and makes no difference. But saying that it's fake one. So guessing lighter.

Thanks for the replies.

So would this just be a straight swap for mine? the lock fitting is different (mine is rectangular where as this is round) so would that make a difference?

Not sure about the lock, but those spoilers wobble like mad at speeds near the national speed limit lol - the top section wobbles up and down.
A lot of people fit Perrin stiffies to stabilise :

Boot lid would fit fine but you'd have to get handy with a small file tho to alter the lock hole from the round one to then fit a rectangular one, probably can be done tho.

When I did mine I just took the lock out my old one and put it back in the later lock housing, the tumbler section comes out and you swap them over, not sure why you are taking a file to it lol.

I just assumed a round lock would have a different size/shape hole to a rectangular lock oops

Like others have, easier to swap the whole boot lid with the torsion things, locks should swap right over too.

Boot lid would be a straight swap, then just remove the barrel from your lock to swap over.

There are four holes for an sti spoiler, but just using the two wrx spoiler holes is still pretty secure. What colour?

Are you sure? I don't want it blowing off half way down the M23

The car is silver.

If you fancy a hassle free solution I have a blue JDM STI Hawk I will sell the boot and spoiler from. Obviously it will require painting too but if you want the real deal the option is there. PM me if interested.
