Default Subaru impreza 2004 widetrack coilover advice?

I have a knock on my rear shocks which I know is normal, so now looking to upgrade all around, I use the car daily I do not mind a harder set up so I can lower the car without the wheels scrapping on my arches if I had people in the back. I have seen bc racing and tein is there anything else I should consider, and how are these to brands? Thanks

Morning mate, I was in a similar position to you a few years ago and a so called specialist told me my shocks were gone and recommended replacing the lot with coilovers. I did just that and found i still had the knocking noise, I finally worked out myself that the knocking was actually the boot lock rattling, a rag under the boot bump stops fixed it instantly!

I guess what I'm saying is, be sure its actually your shocks before spending the best part of a grand on coilovers.

As for coilovers, I had the BC coilovers fitted with the softer spring rate from recollection. On a motorway and especially at speed the car felt super smooth and planted. On freshly layer B roads it was also fantastic, but, on any 95% of the other roads in the UK it was hateful, crashy, un comfortable and even dangerous. Even with softer spring rate and the BC adjusted to their full height and softest settings it was still way too hard for the roads. The car would feel like it was skipping at times when pushing hard on uneven roads and felt dangerous, too dangerous to drive hard with confidence in fact.

Daily driving at normal speed was also hateful, even driving over cats eyes was like being kicked in the kidneys, hit a pot hole and it felt like the strut was going to shoot out of the top of the wing!!
I had them on for 3 months then went back to the "specialist" and told him to take them off and put the standard kit back on.
Coilovers are fantastic, but they are for track cars, not daily drivers, don't get sucked into the idea that it will make your car a better road car as it won't. There will probably be those that will argue my points here but don't listen to it.

If you do have suspension knock, do a search on KYB shock for your model and buy those instead, honestly the best option for a road car.

Ian
