Default Gearshift Slop on 2006 STI JDM Impreza

Hi Guys,

Recently notice my Gear Lever had abit of left to right slop, It has now gotten to a point where I can't even select a gear comfortably......any idea what this could be? I have a few piece to install (see links below) once I've installed all of this it should be good as new I'm hoping.

Also grateful if anyone could confirm these parts will fit the JDM Spec Car? And does this model Car have a return spring near the U Joint? As I don't seem to see any

the issue is most likely the third photo , it looks like two metal pipes joined together , the bushes are about 50£ delivered from as performance , personally i would do that first and not do any thing else until you see if it’s solved it , it’s a very common issue , it is possible at home on the drive it is a bit fiddly, gearbox mount needs dropping and a set of 12 13 14 mm spanner’s plus a socket set

I fitted the bushes from alyn at as performace and it made a huge difference.

I also last week changed the reverse lock out due to the original rattling and feel it goes into gear easier.

Not sure if it's a placebo effect but it I feel as if its not catching the teeth on the gears as they go in.

Wish I kept a photo of the bushes I changed from Alan as I still have a little side to side I'd like to get rid of.

Don't forget return spring aswell. I'm getting all mine done. It's not too bad, but not 100% easy to find the gear I want.

I think that's the return spring that was last fitted to the classic 5MT gear change linkage..................

I can't remember what bushes come in the kit from Alyn and wonder if there are anymore I can change. I still have side to side movement but not as bad as it was.

You need part E from the diagram above, its this
https://www.importcarparts.co.uk/par...000&searchPart

It doesnt come in the AS Performance bushings kit and if worn can still allow a low of wiggle on your stick.

Thanks for this.
Is it just a matter of car up and undo the bolts or is there a guide out there.

I remember buying the kit and having my mechanic fit it but can't remember what bushes it was.
I remember it was 1 bag and around £90.
8ti think Alyn said something like it has the whiteline bushes but also another specifically from ASPerformance.
it made a massive difference but I still have a little side to side. For the sale of £26 i may as well fit E 🙂
