Need better tyres Help?
Had a run out this afternoon and had a brown pants moment when all 4 tyres span up sending me all over the place Not had the car back long and still running Interstate track tyres.
Looking for a A rated wet weather tyre for as cheap as possible , any recommendations 265-35-18s

Rainsports were pretty good in wet but terrible in dry good price too.

Ps4 is a geat all rounder but a bit more expensive.
If you can find the (relativly) new Goodyear Supersports those are supposed even better than the Ps4 bigger brother the Ps4 S. But the cant get the fullfat PS4 "S" in anything below 19" apart from 235/40 18 for Golf etc.

The cheapest A rated wet weather tyre coming up is this , but i am assuming there crap.
https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre/nankan...l-zr#327264483
Im not planning on using the car that much through the winter so looking for a cost effective solution.

For the sake of 20 quid a corner i'd go rainsports out of all i mentioned.
Tge PS4 is about 160 quid in your size.
Rainsport 100 ish
That budget nangkang will ber pretty poor. The only decent Nangkang are the NS2R & AR1 as dry weather track tyres on a budget

Problem with rainsports is, there still a summer tyre. The silicone compound does harden up like any other summer tyre during the winter below temps of 6 degrees or so.
Hence why winter tyres are used.
Personally for the price and performance the vredestein vorti are fantastic.
If possible the Eagle supersports are the best of the summer tyre bunch imho
Dedicated winter tyres will be upwards of 140 a corner in that size as well

I am running my second set of Rainsports, they are great in the wet and no issues in the dry either. The comment up the page about soft tyre walls is accurate though. At standard PSI the car feels a little like its rotating from the centre of the car but its just flex in the tyre walls, the grip itself is good though. A few more PSI each corner and it does help firm things up and for the price, they are a good value choice and you get used to the feel.
Will I get them a 3rd time...not sure to be honest, guess if I had deeper pockets when buying tyres last, I would have gone with something a little more expensive. Next time I may go with something else, but if on a budget, they are a better choice than ditch finders!!

I'm running a set of Pirelli P7 Cinturatos and I genuinely couldn't be more impressed with them. Dry performance is very close to the P Zero's I had on before but wet performance is so much better.

After some considerable research, I just decided to go with the PS4 on my new one. They seemed to offer the best all round performance. I previously had Rainsports and Eagle F1's and didn't particularly rate either of them. They are a bit more expensive than other options but I think tires are worth splashing out on.

This is from personal experience, Yokhama and Toyo I would not touch, phenomenal in the dry for the most part but terrible in the wet. Uniroyals were very good in the wet too
Have a look at Pereli Pzeros and Falkans, I've used them and are brilliant in an all weather tyre condition.

i had the falken 452 , i’ve had the pirelli p zero nero ,good year eagle f3 the vredestein are streets ahead , my most recent tyre change was p zero to vredestein ultrac vorti, lots of tyre life on the p zero but changed them to get more grip , look up tyrereviews

The killer is the cost of a ps4 , 140Ł v 191Ł so working out another 200 Ł for all four , the grip difference is not worth 200 , my ps4 wore out , a minimal if any thing difference between them

There’s often a Michelin promotion - Camskill have one right now giving back Ł75 for four 18” Michelins and Ł50 for four 17s.
Right now a set of four 225/40/18 PS4s can be bought for Ł275 delivered from Camskill.
Also PS4 last longer than other UHP tyres of similar performance, which offsets any additional upfront cost.

Not sure what sizes you guys are after but Michelin PS4 in 225/40/18 on Oponeo are only Ł94 ( or Ł101 for the lower noise version).
MyTyres are usually similar priced. It's a Golf R32 by the way, but IIRC tyre sizes aren't too different to imprezas depending on wheel choice. So to be so much more money it must be a oddball size Imprezas use.
Would warn both Oponeo and Mytyres ship via the EU, so you might not get them that quick especially with what's happening at the boarder at the moment. I can get locally supplied tyres via our trade supplier (BMTR/car tyre store) for about Ł5 more per tyre delivered to my work next day delivery (sometimes same day if in stock).
Wouldn't use any other summer tyre at that price as they are IMO the best all round (supersports or sportcontact 6 would be my only other choice but I fear wet grip in cooler temps not to be so good). PS4s are good down to about 5degrees, and warm up nicely when being driven, so current winter temperatures in Middle England aren't an issue. The new Pirelli PZ4s seem good but only experienced the run flat versions.
I do have Dunlop wintersports for sub zero temperatures. But they are horrible, horrible (did I say horrible?) tyres to use on a performance car. They ruin the car.

Missed this post, but that for any branded tyre is a bargain. If I had the space I'd a second set to keep for when the current ones wear out or get damaged.

I am tempted to go for the PS4 though as for a full set they'd cost me Ł373 instead of Ł524 the PSS would cost (cheapest supplier is Kwik Fit).
I loved the PS2 I had in my 205 GTi but the PS3 were really disappointing, soft as a bubblegum and not that grippy either.
I hope the PS4 have stiffer sidewalls than the PS3 (the PSS were great in that aspect).

Has anyone done a track day with the PS4? I am planning to do one trackday per year (if that, funds permitting) and wondering how these would fair.
Unfortunately the PS4s aren't available in 245/40/18

The Ps4 replaced the ps3 so still will feel sloppy compared to the Pss & Ps4-S
The full fat ps4"S" is the replacement for the Pss & shares the same motorsport dirived carcass so perfoms farr better than the Non S
But is not available in many 18" sizes other than 235

Basically this: PS4 is inbetween PS2 and PS3
Stiffer than the latest Primacy4 (I have them on the Seat Altea as they have very low noise ratings ), but softer sidewalls to the PS2. Personally I didn't rate the PS2 in the cold and damp...our e39 530i had them and pulling out of a damp junction on to a fast busy road at this time of year always gave traction issues and difficulty accelerating quickly without the TC cutting all the power or spinning up a wheel with it disabled. As such I avoided the PSS and PS4S.
Interestingly sidewall stiffness does seem to vary on size; I have PS4 on both the Golf and a Jag XJ-S on a 245/45-18 tyre, the side walls on the Jag are softer than the 225/40-18 on the Golf. They needed barely any effort to install the tyre on the rim (I fit my own tyres...and for the record, always find sub-45 profile Bridgestones a ball-ache for sidewall stiffness and rim mounting). Certainly noticeable when it has an extra 200kg being put through them compare to the ancient Pirelli P6000s they replaced (which had gone so hard they'd flat spot if left standing and needed five miles of driving to go back into shape ) .

I suppose the same tyre behaves very differently on different cars depending on the weight of the car and which axle drives it.
In general, Michelin have soft sidewalls from my experience but the PSS in 225/45/18 provided great steering feel as well as ride quality.
Also, they are very sticky and didn't overheat even after 20 mins driving around Bedford autodrome.
I am not a fan of Bridgestones personally as the sidewalls are too stiff for my liking.

Found the Supersports deadly in poor conditions with RWD
My mate also spun his golf R on M/Way with them fitted the last time we had even the smallest amount of snow.
Dry weather & up to temp they were hard to match without going the Cup2 route & those sorts of tyres.
But beware when the conditions are very cold &/or very wet as they can bite you badly.
Lucky the AWD on scoobs is one of best put there for bad conditions so may not be as big a problem however don't say i didn't warn you.
Perfect world i'd have Supersports for summers & winters for winter.

After reading this , "While Pilot Sport 4 replaces the Pilot Sport 3, it’s an improvement on the Pilot Super Sport, not a “new” Pilot Sport 3, in design and technology. In comparative testing in 18" sizes, Pilot Sport 4 outperforms the Pilot Super Sport in 99% of everyday situations, with the added benefit of 10-15% improved wear. The other 1% is on a dry track where the Pilot Super Sport would outperform the Pilot Sport 4 by a couple of tenths of a second around a long track." I am tempted to go for the 4.
They start to go off after a few laps though on the dry:
I have a winter set of wheels/tyres so I am looking for a summer tyre that is good on the wet as well as on the dry and with which I can do the occasional track day.
