Default OPTIONS AND GUIDANCE

Hello Folks ,
I will be carrying out some some jobs on my Blobeye Spec C in a month and have noticed that a lot of forum users talk about “all fluids changed”. I know a company only a mile from my workplace that specialise in Subaru’s and have built several race cars so they definitely know their stuff. When I asked him a while back about diff oil , he suggested “ leave it alone and don’t change it unless there is a problem!” I was planning on changing all fluids just for maintenance purposes but wondered what people thoughts were on this?
I also have a slight crunch at high speed from 5th to 6th if I change gear quickly. I assume this could be start of a synchro problem in the box but have also heard that a change of gear oil would do no harm and that there is a specific oil that can help with this issue?
I’m going to change my standard UK shape plates to square style Jap ones as well, what are the smallest legal ones I can get away with ?
I’ll probably order a new front bumper splitter as well.
Could someone suggest some companies for 1- Diff / gearbox oil, 2 , oil filter , 3 splitter ,4 , jap style plates.
It’ll be top brand stuff I always buy when it comes to parts / consumables.
Thanks for any assistance and suggestions.
Speeds.

diff oil gets dirty quickly so i would change it , it is easy to do , opie oils , there is red line shockproof light or heavy for gearboxes , the plates not saying you can’t change them but if you go smaller then they will be illegal

Brand of gear oil is entirely up to you, the usuals most people go for are Millers, Motul, Fuchs etc. I ran Gulf Competition in my cars.
75w-90 LS for the rear diff. - 1 litre will do.
75w-90 for the gearbox. - 5 litres will do with some left to spare.
Splitter depends on if you want a genuine STI or a replica. There are replicas available on here in the parts for sale section for around £100. Genuine ones are around £350 from memory.
Jap plates are 12" x 6" if I remember right.

You could shop on Opie Oils to get the oils you need and then source your other parts elsewhere or you could go to someone like Tom @ Sprinting Hare and he will sort out you out with everything you need.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Regarding the square style number plates, I was on a site ages ago and they offered two different sizes ? All I want is the smallest ,legal , square plates , just wondered what size that is, you reckon 12 by 6 Dreep?
Thanks.

you can go square with the same size letters that’s legal , it still needs on the plate who made it their post code plus the bs number to be legal , (mot won’t normally be bothered by that missing ) , if you go smaller lettering it’s no longer legal ,( mot may not be bothered ) if you have a jdm or in my case an aussie import with a smaller enclosed space to fit a plate into at the rear , you can fit a smaller plate in the smaller space and that is legal , if you don’t have the smaller space you can’t legally go to smaller lettering , if you don’t go silly small there is a good chance you won’t get any issues , i have had to fit 7 letters into a 6 letter space , the area where the plate sits is enclosed in the boot so i can go slightly smaller , i measured the space went on ebay and they made one up for 10£ , my fsti have square normal sized lettering plates

I have just ordered 13x7 for the rear and 14x3.5 for the front. The front letters will be smaller but I've had smaller in the past and never had issues with either the fuzz or MOT.

Most online companies are based in IRE that do Jap style plates but my local guy worked out half the price but no company stamp though.

Ok Chaps ,
I’ll get searching and up the bits and bobs tomorrow. One thing I forgot to mention was ,late last year I hit a bloody pheasant at high speed. The lucky part was I hit it right in the centre and the lower grille did an amazing job of absorbing the impact . I spent a few hours afterwards twisting and bending the grille back into the correct shape and even though you wouldn’t notice unless you looked really close but around a 3 inch section of the mesh had broken away from the frame of the grille. I don’t think it is made of a metal that can be welded so I should replace it as I know if it happened again the impact would not be absorbed as well as the last time and it would be my large oil cooler that would take the brunt,I don’t want that! I read about guys using zunsport grilles, any other options out there? It is black in colour that i’ll be going for.
Thanks.
