If your on facebook check the facebook groups, i'd tend to steer clear of autotrader, you want a car that gives you peace of mind that the previous owner has looked after it otherwise it can start to get expensive, autotrader is a minefield of all sorts around that price bracket.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me, I am quite a frequent searcher on ebay and FB, however sometimes I do think you can get a good deal through autotrader and believe it or not gumtree. My classic that was featured is now on sale on fb, with the rota formula mesh. It is very sentimental to me, and I was considering buying back however from what ive heard after doing some thinking, I think it will remind me of why I got rid of it In the first place. It has some flaws I couldn’t ever change. i.e Cat D and the fact that it has way to many blemishes and needs money to make good. most of all, it wasn’t the right blue either. I am after a white blob which is extemley hard to find or a blue blob both wrx, not fussed on sti, as I can make it look like a rep. im quite happy with a rough 300bhp power from a wrx. More than enough to take out most things on the raod.

There was a thread on here not too long ago that had a few import recommendations. Had a look but can't seem to find it now.

Thanks for the heads up. I doubt i would import one. i dont think i could go through the hassle. Plus would i be able to even import anything with a budget of 5k. I would rather just get a nice clean simple wrx and modify as i go sensibly...

I think you're right on that one mate. Shipping fees, import duty and tax means you would need to get the car insanely cheap to come in at budget.

However prices seem to have shot up loads too.

No, the seller ended it early either because they sold it privately or thye just decided to keep it.

I managed to get my blobeye for £4750 off ebay and has been a really good car so far. I just looked at ebay every day and was lucky to spot this one the day it went on sale (new years day), phoned straight away and immediately drove to view and buy it. If you keep at it you should find one eventually, just be prepared to phone people as soon as you see a good one at a good price. When you're at the lower end of teh budget you have to be quick off the mark and hope for someone who needs a quick sale or who doesn't know what they're selling.

I think there's a few unrealistically priced on ebay and people might be willing to sell for a bit less, especially if theyve been advertsiing for a while so might be worth making a few enquires for some of the 6k cars and see if anyone is willing to take 5k for a quick sale.

good luck with the hunt

What did you get? Traders are selling Blobeye models from £6000 to £10,000 well the one for £10 was a Hawkeye. Crazy money for a WRX lol

Got a blobeye wrx, 90k on the clock and im pretty sure its a prodrive as it has a prodrive exhaust and i took it to get it tuned and it was on 260bhp already (now 279). It did have a short MOT and a check engine light on which was just a lambda sesnor, but the MOT history was basically impeccable and i took it to my mechanics to check it over including the cambelt and they were really impressed and said everything's spot on and cambelt is brand new. Only thing i had to do for mot was replace the horns which cost £30.

My mates have been making fun of me saying it was probably used to settle a drug debt as the guy i bought it off had a gold tooth and met me in an industrial estate lol. The guy i bought it off kept checking I was still coming to pick it up as people were trying to buy it when i was on my way, I don;t think he knew what he was selling. Basically I just got lucky I think.

wow, are these really the prices being achieved nowadays?

Ebay seems full of newage WRXs at the moment... lots with various EMLs, rust issues etc etc, and they're fetching what I consider to be strong money (looking at the sold prices, that is... who knows if those sales actually happen or not in the end)

I have no idea, my father in law just sold his Land Rover cheap as it had issues. Guy who bought it was a dealer and listed it back on for double the price. I'm sure he didn't fix its issues.
