Default Stereo problem

Not posting in the ice section as there isn’t much ‘traffic’ in that section.

replaced the standard double din with an alpine Bluetooth double din a few years back.
sound is now cutting out completely on all sources. I’ve pulled the unit out and checked the connections, all ok.

is it a case of things just not built to last and unit needs replacing?

Couple of other things noticed recently, fuel gauge appears to be playing up a little, fuel warning light coming on with 1/4 tank still, and have noticed a couple of small electric shocks when I get out and touch the car occasionally.

Could this all be related?

When you say its cutting out, do you mean just the sound cuts out or the whole headunit dies?

If its just the sound it could well be a blown speaker which once at a certain volume can cause a short and make the headunit cutout.
I would try and disconnect all the speakers from the back and connect one at a time to see which one is causingthe issue. Failing that possibly the amp has gone in the headunit, but that unlikely.

The other issue sounds unrelated to me.

Check your earth connections. From battery to bodywork or engine block. Also leads from alternator.

Consider replacing battery unless you know it's age. Or get it tested.

Try the HU in another car - should be easy to do if it's using the ISO connectors.

Did you upgrade your speakers on the doors?

Connections there maybe loose through time and touching could have blown the stereos icu thingies

alpine stereos was and are still good imo my alpine 9812rb still works as good and that’s connected to sub etc

Yeh I changed the front woofer units for infinity reference, kept the original tweeters, and changed the rears for some old speakers I had that had never been used, but changed these again for some vibe components as they packed up. Will loose all sound for a while, bumps seem to affect it, right hand corners seem to make it come on again, wife said didn’t work on her way to work this morning but worked on the way home. Head unit display is all present and correct, just the sound that goes.

Check all the wiring. Try and swap HUs over.

Defo sounds like connector issue on the back of one of the speakers. Possibly its moving as you drive and shorting out causing the headunit sound to cut out.
