Default What's an A Line Sti ?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I'm searching hatchbacks in Japan at the min, and have been for a while. On my searches the Sti A-Line seems to pop up quite a bit, it looks like a normal Sti from the outside, on the inside it looks like it has a semi automatic box and has paddle shifters. One other thing that surprised me as it's listed as having the 2.5 boxer engine, i was under the impression that Japan got the 2.0 twin scroll.

Is this A-Line any good, how does it perform against a normal Sti, do the paddles give you full control of doing it manually, if so i'd asume it would be quicker than the manual version if the paddle system is any good.

Pretty sure the A-Lines were the luxury/understated model of the STI. Most had leather interior, low level spoilers and an automatic gearbox.

Is their a reason why it's not popular as you barely see anyone post that has one compared to normal Sti owners, i'm guessing that the auto box and paddle shifters are'nt upto much, i have DCT on my current BMW and it's great, i presume it's not on a par or close to being on a par with that box.

There's a couple down here in Cornwall. Jason MacDonald, owner of Scoobybits has one, so I'm sure you could ring him and ask about it.

I saw an A line auto STi for sale in UK sometime ago on ebay IIRC, it seemed very cheap as I guess there isn't much demand.

I was just more curious as to what the A-Line version was, i can't imagine that the auto box will perform like a DCT box, which might be part of the reason it's not popular as you hardly hear of one.
