Default What do you guys think?

Hi all new member here 🙌

I did post a hello message here yesterday but hasn’t gone up for some reason!

anyway I’m finally at the point in life where I can own my dream car!😁 I did buy one 2 weeks ago and believe it or not the engine seized the day I bought it! In the process of getting a refund and don’t want a repeat of that happening again haha

I’m from South Wales and the bought the car from gillingham because of the distance had the car delivered and what a mistake that was! Garage miss sold me on a bunch of things.

but anyway I’m looking at this one currently for sale what should I be looking out for when purchasing? I’ve added the link any advice would be greatly appreciated!😁

Welcome mate.

Do you know about the 2.5 issues. Well documented. Not everyone goes but worth knowing about now especially with these cars getting on a bit.

hi mate! I aware of the head gasket issue but that’s about it mate. This whole car world is new to me, I’ve only ever owned cheap cars so this I’m sure will be a whole new experience in terms of money and learning 😅

A lot more to it mate. Have a look into it before you make a decision. Once forged though then they are supposed to be much more reliable but should be built by someone who knows what they are doing and with the correct parts. I know the market is pushing prices up but you should be able to a JDM version if you prefer them although you will lose the burble.

Other will be on soon to share advice.

You can get Piston problems with the 2.5 engines. Had nearly 10 Impreza's and never once had gasket issue. You can get the head bolts torqued up, to help prevent this I believe. If you can get yourself a JDM version imported, euros be best option.

13k for basic UK hawk with over 80k miles on 17" and bc racing coilovers, warranty is a joke -You have to pay 400 plus vat for up to 1k claim.
Buy jdm sti ,swap headers exhaust and turbo to singlescroll ,remap and You will have a burble simply

thanks for advice mate 👍 more and more I’m looking everywhere says jdm! Would you look at getting one imported all have one already imported? In terms of the price I thought 13k for that one was about right? Or am I just being naive?😅

I thought the same!😅 I don’t to be honest mate apart from being a Hawkeye (just preference) colours wise planning on getting it changed to a satin black so colour wise I’m not to fussy.

ive read about the differences in driving but this is my first “proper” car as I’ve never been in the financial situation to own one before 👍

A lot of traders have bought up these cars and priced them silly. Going back a few years they were well under £10k.

No advisories on the MOT and very little mileage. Doesn't meant its a bad thing just depends when the current owner got the car and if they were getting fake MOTs done. Just do your checks.

Hi Azzi and welcome! Coincidentally, someone else is asking a similar question and here's some pretty useful advice from the wise owls on this site, well worth a read:

Think its a bit expensive mate

On stock engine and its an early Blob so not quite widetrack STI price so in essence its a new turbo. You could probably build it for a lot less.

When you say you could build it for a lot less, how? It says All his parts were brand new with receipts in the last 2 years...and from rcm....he’s done the opposite of cutting corners by the look of things if you get me....If I were in the market for a blob that’s exactly what I’d be looking at..his price says 17 but I’m sure he’s not going to get that for it.

You have the RCM tax, there are other stockists too (something to consider). But you could get like for like from a different brand thats one side of it. There is also another side lets say you start with an early Blob you could spend less than £10k in mods to get it to 400bhp using a stock engine.

I'm not going to say its a terrible car, quite the opposite, just over priced in my opinion. Its the looks of the car that grab your attention. Just not where I would want to throw £17k if you know what I mean.

na completely understand mate, if I don’t sell I’m going to up the power so just interested to hear the alternatives regarding upgrades that’s all...👍👍 But I know what you mean now regarding rcm tax 👍

Don't worry mate RCM stuff is quality and not all the stuff they carry have the same tax if you know what I mean (just my opinion). A lot of the stuff seems to be rebranded, think GT Spec vs RCM headers. You also have companies like Fuji racing etc their stuff looks oddly familiar to RCM stuff just with the company's own finish.

You have a widetrack and they are only going one way. If you sold what would you get to replace. With how silly the prices are it just seems there is better stuff out their if you're paying market rate.

When you are ready to hit 400bhp+ put up a new thread with what you want from the car and not just the power figure lol. There are a few different ways of getting there.

will do mate 👍 the only reason I’m considering selling up is because I have bad ocd with it eg. I can’t be bothered driving it because I will have to spend 3 hours getting it all clean again afterwards, it’s ridiculous.

I think you're better off spending the money of a full respray, surprised you have any paint left on it with how much you clean it loooooooooool

But seriously only thing I can suggest is use it for your daily for a week or two. That way you won't have time to clean it.
