In the style of the Broquet thread, and apart from the fact that I haven't got an Ecotek, are there any views from the punters that did the 'group buy'?

Yours, wanting to be convinced but still sceptical etc etc from Tunbridge Wells

I bought one!

I routinely got 280 out of a tank using NUL, I now get 300-310 minimum and last week got 323!!!!! (99my 5Dr)

And my driving/route hasn't changed at all. I can't say it has improved power or response, seems the same but it has definately improved MPG - my only caveat would be that it is slightly noisy, but I was a cheapskate and did'nt buy the filter kit. Not sure where this would fit anyway.

Mine is fitted in the BOV pressure pipe to the centre of the plenum.

Works OK.....Would I reccomend one......hmmmm...if your concerned about MPG then YES....if you're concerned about driveability then ...NO!

Make your own mind up

I used to get 265 from a tank before the light came on. The other day I filled up with 282 miles on the clock and I could only fit 43.5 litres in. That's 29 mpg!

However, the odd thing is that I don't have an Ecotek valve. Are you 'Ecotek' people sure you've taken all other factors into account (like the weather?)

29mpg from a Scoob!! I didn`t realise they made a diesel version?
I fitted one after the group buy and am now getting around 23mpg, trouble is, I never kept a check on the consumption before! I intend to replace the original dump valve pipe for a while to get some comparison. I dont honestly think there`s much difference, probobly 5-6%? (on a Scoob thats 1-1.5 mpg?)

I bought an Ecotek CB26-P about 3 months ago, fitted it, and my car felt like it had been superchipped! Fuel usage seemed to have improved and all was well...
About 6 weeks ago, I started to notice my car seemed to "engine brake" harder than normal. It had not just started, i think it had been like this all the time, but being stuck in slow, stop - start traffic one day, it seemed as if my engine mountings had failed! They had'nt, but what i did do was remove the ecotec and the problem went with it! Since removal, I get a consistent 34mpg around town, and 44mpg on a 60-70mph 'A'road type run. The same, if not better than with ecotek!!! This is on a 1.8 Astra GSi 16v ecotec (not ecotek!), and NOT a scooby!
I heard that in a recent car magazine, who had fitted an ecotek to one of the employees cars to test, noticed the car was not running as good as it should. They took it off, gave it a good clean, and all was back to normal! So maybe this is all i need to do?
A good freind of mine (and fellow scoobynetter) has one of these on his MY98, and when i said to him about the engine braking effect, he agreed that he had this problem too. So it's not just my car that suffers from this...

Ecotek for sale £25 with gold filter...

Anyone who 'routinely' gets more than 280 miles from one tank in their Scoob is quite clearly driving like an old woman, period!!
On the other hand, getting less than 200 from a UK car is unusual, and there maybe a problem somewhere.
I think an average from a tank should be no less than 220, and no more than 280 unless, as I've said, you drive like an old woman!!

I've been getting 330 miles out of a tank for the last 4 fills, MY00. Using SUL and no Ecotek.

I guess the trips to Cornwall and Norwich have had something to do with this.

davidw = old woman

Does anybody want me to knit them a nice woolly scarf and matching socks?

Std MY00, normally 150-180 miles per tank of SUL, about 20 more if SUL & Octane Booster, managed 330 sitting at <60 for one very very very long journey.
Only been an old woman the once then

Must have been the weather - going up to London and back on Wednesday I got 370 miles before the warning light came on.

Yes I was driving like an old woman, but 370 miles - that's about 35 mpg!!!

Is this a record?

Robertio - fooking hell mate, you got lead boots?? - I could not afford to run any car that only did 180 on 60 litres of fuel!!

Goddamn - trust ssc did more MPG than that!

I'd take it back to the dealer and ask them to replace the leaking fuel tank......

Light just come on this moring at 310 miles.

STEF - I wouldn't say I drive like an old woman, but I made myself a sticker for the bottom of the Interior Mirror that simply says "ARRIVE ALIVE".....this is for when I'm checking my rear view mirror for a big overtake I think of my wife at home and how much I'd like to see her again.....Kind of works I guess!!

Robertio.
You must have a problem, simple. I've never been able to get less than about 190 miles from a tank on the road, and that was 190 very hard miles!
I'd seriously get it checked out.

Dr Hu.
I'm sorry, but light coming on at 310 miles means you are a granny, accept it!
When you consistently get 300+ miles from a tank it's time to put on the slippers and get your trolleys out!

The car has been in 2 different dealers during the last 2 weeks, nothing wrong with the car, other than a bit of hesitation between 6 and 7 thousand rpm, one of the dealers remarked that it was one of the quicker Turbos he had driven, this despite me claiming it is not as quick as it should be, hmmm.
The other dealer told me just after I got the car to expect 15-18mpg, which has been in the ball park.
Stef, if that's the best you can manage I'll have to show you how to drive a Scooby properly some time

BTW following previous discussions around here, I know I am not the only one to struggle to see 200 miles from a tank, must be the car

For Sale: 1 Set of very heavy size 11 Lead Boots, P/X considered for knitting needles and slippers
