Question

I just took out my panel filter to clean it a few weeks ago and on refitting it I broke the filter housing (I should have been more carfeul and took the bits apart instead of prying it open!).

As you all know, the filter housing is in two parts, a top and bottom part which is clipped together. I have broken the plastic on the back where the upper section and bottom section slide into each other and then you apply the metal clips on the front.

I seem to be hearing a hissing noise now because I suspect the filter housing is not 100% airtight. Is this a real problem if I don't do anything about it for a while? Any risk of unfiltered air getting in the engine?

I am thinking of fitting an induction kit in maybe a month or two and I don't want to spend money buying a new filter housing which I will remove later. I also seem to be getting poorer mpg too.can this be related?

I'd get your induction kit straight away, just to be safe.
