Default Temp guage rising when on idle

Hi guys just looking for some help, I've got a 2006 WRX when driving recently when stuck in traffic the temp guage rose from normal position in the middleish to about 3/4 to the top of the guage when car started moving temp guage went to normal when stuck in traffic it rose again.
All gaskets were done within the last year and fluids are all ok. I could hear the fans running.
So any help or advice appreciated as to what to do would be appreciated

Visibly check both cooling fans run.

They should run with the air conditioning too.

Also check temperature via the OBD socket with a scan tool as the gauge is a dumbed down reading so isn't reliable.

Just to add...I think these may have a two speed fan. Single speed fans gave two pin connectors on them, Two speed fans have four pin connectors.
