Tesco Momentum 99 - it said E10 at the pump
Hey all
I usually put V-Power in my STI but all the Shell stations near me have been out of stock for 2 weeks now.
I filled up with Tesco Momentum 99 today after no hope from the 2 shell stations I visited but on the pump I noticed it said E10 on the momentum 99 sticker.
From what I've been reading on the internet, all higher octane fuels in the UK are still E5 but the pump said E10 for Momentum 99 🙄
Can someone who uses Momentum 99 from Tesco confirm if this is the case when you next fill up? I'll see if I can get a photo tomorrow when I go for a bike ride. The tesco website doesn't mention Momentum 99 being E5 still (https://www.tesco.com/help/petrol-stations/).
p.s I'm half paranoid about using E10. I've seen people mention ethanol corrodes the fuel lines / seals or something but I have a 'modern' scooby (I'm not very car technical 😄 ). I have a 06 Hawk sti.
Do you think I'll be ok with E10 long term (It was much cheaper than vpower mind you hence I'm wondering if I can safely make the switch now).

E10 will replace E5 as the regular '95-octane' grade unleaded petrol. E5 petrol will still be available, but only in '97/98/99-octane' super unleaded grade. Meaning you'll be paying for Shell V Power or Tesco Momentum 99 if you want to keep using E5 petrol.24 Aug 2021
my local tesco shows e5 on momentum , all sul should still be e5 but don’t use BP sul , car should be compatible any way to e10 but i wont be using it 👍

Thanks! Think I've been scared by the negativity about E10. I'm going to continue using momentum 99 and see how my car feels. I've only ever used Vpower

A lot of pumps have been relabelled as E10 in preparation but they are still dispensing E5. Once all the refineries have switched it will be 10% Eths for normal unleaded but super unleaded can still remain as E5
Point to note Ethanol free fuel is also labelled as E5!!
Esso supreme is ethanol free but politics means it has to have a E5 label to denote it as petrol: https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels/petrol
Stupid I know.

When I looked it up, E10 was good to use on Subaru's from 1991: https://check-vehicle-compatibility-...acturer/Subaru
Interesting...The rubber filter hoses in the engine bay on Classic Imprezas perish and rot! Classic ethanol degradation. Common failure if not replaced with SAE J30 R9 or DIN73379-3D compliant hose.
Pipes under the floor are also steel which isn't great either if the car is laid up and not used often.

Depends on how the car is used: If it's not used often and also stored, say, over winter without a full tank, it will cause harm: Seen it myself on a number of occasions. Worst being a Mercedes 500SEC that phase separated and sucked rusty goop from the steel lines into the metering unit (k-jetronic; mechanical fuel injection ), also seized the fuel pump. Flushed it, new pump, rebuilt metering unit and injectors, only for the d**k owner to do it again two years later.
If the car is used regularly so the fuel is always fresh that makes a huge differences from it'll likely never be an issue. But if it has to be stored, do it will a full tank, not left on dregs.
