I have a can of that tyre repair stuff , the spare is left where it is to support the floor of the boot in case i put any thing heavy in it , as a spare it’s no good as all the cars have different size tyres compared to the standard size 👍

You need to put a back on the front and then put the saver on the back if you have a front puncture that is........

Yeah I realise that

What I really need to do is buy an STi spare.

But who has actually had a puncture and needed to change a wheel recently? Can't remember needing to do one away from home in the last 20 years. Seems like a thing of the past, like chokes and points.

the sealant can be bought on ebay for 5£ or so , you just spray it in to the tyre via the valve , you can also get a different repair kit where you push what looks like a bit of string with glue on it into the puncture hole , the only issues about the spray sealant i heard they can not repair the tyre after , how true i don’t know but if it gets me out of a bad spot it’s one of those things 👍

It needs to be water based sealant so that the tyre can be repaired.

The sealant still doesn't help when you slice open the tyre like a mate had happen up a forest track. Only a spare wheel helps in those situations so I'll keep on carrying a spare.

Sealant won't fix blow outs and holed sidewalls or if the tyre has popped off the bead (hard cornering and a big pothole can do that)

Having had a puncture in the middle of nowhere at 1:00am and on new years with no phone signal made me forever thankful of having a spare...my fluctuation in body weight makes more of difference. Eating less pies easily offsets the weight of the spare.

Hate how so many newer cars don't come with a spare; especially when they don't even create more storage space, they either waste it with a giant silencer, or fill the void with battery and control units or worse delete the wheel well and thereby leave enough void under the car to hang a illegal migrant from!

I also carry a mini toolkit (Sudorf mini service kit) and jump leads in all my cars, usually wedged in and around the spare wheel..well, because s**t happens.

I carry a spare, tyre sealant, and a puncture repair kit (plug type). To be honest, I've mostly used the puncture repair kit, similar to this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203070122...AAAOSw7ExcfXwS

As Ali has mentioned, there are situations where anything but a spare won't help. But the puncture repair kit is fairly handy. Like if you have a screw or nail that you haven't previously noticed, that has worn down and now leaks. Get some pliers, pull the whole thing out, ream the hole and plug it. They seem to last forever. But are considered a temp fix.

I think i'll get some tyre moose and the puncture repair kit on the ebay link above that joey posted, to full the void where the tyre was, so the floor doesn't sag i'll try and find some of that foam, the firm type that the jack and tools are in to support the removeable floor.

My other half wanted a spare wheel rather then that tyre repair stuff in t boot of her Seat Leon, got her a spare wheel then transferred the hard foam jack holder/tyre repair kit into the scooby boot, ain't a perfect fit but supports the carpet ok.

Ditched my spare wheel years ago. It's too small for my wheels anyway. Just put a can of that stuff in the boot.

My STI space saver spare is on the original tyre (21 years old) and the wheel has gone rusty. I’m looking out for a good replacement but it’s only for boot floor support at the moment however I’d want one if I’m travelling further away.
