why did my car overboost this morning????

can anyone help with this, put my foot down in second and the overboost cut in. Tried it again and noticed the boost gauge was showing 16psi instead of 13 what it usually does. The car seems to be alright now but why did it do it?
the car is a uk97 with k&n induction kit and scoobysport rear box.
