From what I've read hit and miss. Never personally looked into them with a car I've seen so can't comment on that.
Have you tried the guys on Type RA, someone may have gone to look at it already.

Like Nossy says, you'll hear mixed reviews if you speak to people face to face. You won't get a true reflection putting up a post like this as most people don't want to speak ill of a well known Subaru trader (with the exception of Hedgecutter! )
I have never personally been there but have spoken to them a few times in the past, both buying and selling, and those conversations put me off.

standard if possible
must be blue
same make tyres on all wheels
long mot
No Rust!
No rips in seats
NO piisssshhhhh when changing gear !
Closer than Fort William if possible.

He's just been doing a few little bits and bobs prior to sale but has been away with work loads.
Can put you in touch with him if you fancy? If its an absolute must regarding blue he can source you something within your budget from Japan.

Sounds like you really need to import one mate. You won’t find a UK car without any rust, they’ve been in our climate for 17-18 years. Even my black blob with just 40k miles had the odd blemish here and there.
My 2 JDM blobs are the total opposite. Not a spot on either of them. I’ve said it on here before, I can’t ever see myself buying another UK Impreza now I’ve had JDM. There so much more choice there that it’s easier to find a good one. In general they are cleaner, have been better looked after and are much nicer to drive.

My mate has that all except his is white. Freshly imported GDB-E STI grade 4 with approx 60k miles on it, still unregistered.

Given what you've wrote in Type RA forum looking at the 03 its actually not really that far off given that you are looking at a non-widetrack against a widetrack.
The non-widetrack cars aren't selling for anywhere near those prices in Japan so dont just see Blob STI and think they are all the same price.

You could easily import a car for that budget mate. You won’t find a totally rust free uk car unless it’s been restored and I’ve looked at my fair share over the last decade.
Tbh, I don’t understand why anyone would choose a UK car over a JDM model now.

There’s a couple of websites that you can see sold prices on. I’ve used pacific coast jdm before. It’s free to register and then you get a basic look at upcoming auctions and you can check sold prices

However with the age of the newage cars now the story has somewhat changed.

You missed this nice looking widetrack on eBay, looked a good price on paper.
Sure a dealer will have it relisted for £5000 more in few days time.
Although prices have been dropping last few weeks.

Have you spoken to places like Torque GT or HJA about importing? Sure, you have to wait 6 months for the car but if you plan on keeping it for a while then what's 6 months really.
Those places can give you an idea of budget. It looks like there's plenty of affordable cars going through.
You are probably limiting yourself with colour but if that's your preference then you can't really change that, white cars sell for a premium.
Mileage is less important than condition. I've seen JDM cars with 200k kms on them and they look like they've only done a quarter of that.

But yes, CarVX mentions radiation. Although as my holiday destination of choice is Chernobyl, it doesn't really worry me

I'd want to have any Subaru I bought up on a ramp before parting with my cash, as I have done with last 3 I've purchased. If the owner won't let you do that then walk away. I wouldn't be fixated on mileage either, my mates wide track failed at 66k miles yet I've seen cars running well with double that so go on history and condition over mileage. If you're looking at one of these it should have a 6 inch stack of receipts with it if its been looked after properly.
Could this be an option?

Or the narrow track spec c at Hurst?
