Question

I am amazed that after the number of posts ive seen, Scoobys best car on planet, just creamed a Ferrari, Porsche etc, RS's are crap
when an chance comes to have a go against other cars ie 200Plusclub track day who's the only team that cann't field ten cars.
The challange was made a silence pervades the board, the tumble weed blows by, the topics change to the more benign How many people have blue scoobs.
Where are all the driving gods and their fantastic machines that sweep all before them.
Dreaming of passing Supercars, dream on.
Youve talked the talk but failed to walk the walk except for a few
who have accepted the challange, congratulations to those few.

Redleader1 - if you dislike scoobies that much, why are your interests listed as scoobies first ??
are you a fighter pilot in your spare time by the way ??

Don't know 'bout redleader.
More like bandit, bandit, bandit.
Anyone who talks about 'creaming' a porka or ferrari on a straight road is clearly a pecker.
Different story around the switchbacks though. I friend of a friend has a 550 and was astonished how fast the Scooby covered ground compared to his Ferrari. Diff tools for diff jobs m8.
Scoobs are not really good at drag racing. Of course you can build one that is but honestly who would bother there are much better candidates for 1/4 mile than an Impreza.

My car may be a fast "ROAD CAR" but there is the problem, It's my "ROAD CAR" If I want to go fast I'll race karts or book some time on a circuit in a "RACING CAR". what you have to remember is these are road cars and not everyone wants to prove they can drive down a 1/4 mile faster than you.

If your happy with your car leave it at that or is it my d1ck is bigger than your d1ck again

The impression I get is that this 'day' has nothing whatsoever with Max Power....from what I have a heard I think that a decent magazine is covering it.

I doubt you'll get many of the max power type crew attending as the cars that are participating are certainly not all bodykits and neon lights....they'll be (very) high performance cars with a suitably high price tag to match and out of reach of the tit head crew.

RE scoobies not the ideal 1/4 mile car....i beg to differ, i think they're great 1/4 mile machines, look at the times only very lightly modded cars can post (sub 14 secs)! I also believe they'll be handling tests organized on the day.

Although this chap may have not worded it so well in his 1st post, i think he does have a point! There have been lots of threads about racing various exotica (RS4, F355, superbikes) and just recently a top speed thread where several claimed speeds in excess of 150mph. Why not prove these claims? Plus I'm sure the day will be extremely enjoyable...

I would attend, but my MR2 only has 174bhp, so I haven't made the 107% qualifying time

Must admit I'm a bit surprised at the lack of takers - I do kind of agree with RLs comments- there seem to be loads on here who can talk a good talk, but......

I thought about not responding to this wind up but then, why not? I will be unable to take up your generous offer ove 1/4 mile but would be delighted to see you here in the Island for the SIDC bash in September. I'll even let you choose: 150 bhp R1 up the mountain or 300bhp scooby down the other side. We could even have a run round Jurby airfield, since you fly a bit!
See you there then?

Ken

edited to correct Jurby spelling

Well Dougie, you're a classy bloke aren't you , nice literate reply

I agree with RL, too many road racing drivers not willing to compare in the real world. But when all is said and done you get these kind of 'my dad's bigger than your dad' threads on all car websites. I don't usually bother reading them (except the bike ones which are just plain funny) let alone reply to them but thought this one was quite appropriate given the context of some of the threads lately.

Incidentally I have been registered to this site since it was the original (I believe it was bbs.sidc.co.uk back then). It was much better in those days

How many people on the board currently have a running Scoob that could be considered competition? Not that many I would wager!!!! But having said that, I've not seen many people claiming they can/have beaten xyz cars recently either.

There's probably loads of peeps with 300bhp ish motors on here but I doubt they are good enough (as in fast enough) to compete?

BTW Mr Leader, most of the Scoob croud I know are more interested in having fun in the twisties and would also admit this is what the Scoob is most suited too, not high speed applications. I think most Scoobs out there wouldn't be much competition, hence the lack of resposnse.

Matt

P.S. Just re-read my post and it kinds of backs up what you said didn't it

Well Steve,
You must be a fairly inteligent chap then musnt't you?
If you had taken the time to read my post properly you
would have noticed the smiley face and the wink. The wording
in my post was purely as a p1ss take into the manner that RL
had made his post. It seemed to me that although the event has
been organised by a reputable group/magazine RL was turning it
into a boy racer style "ur a bunch of ***** that say ur cars fast
but u cant drive " taunt.

Incidentaly please dont guage levels of inteligence or literacy
by how long you have been signed up to a BBS. Generally this is
not an accurate measuring tool!!

http://www.trackdayplus.com/ is the website with details of this event. It isn't just a '1/4 mile drag' event, but has a handling circuit too, so the usual excuses ("I don't do 1/4 miles, show me the twisties....")shouldn't really apply. The entrants list does show some Scoobies, but don't know if they are confirmed. The event isn't free, but all details are on the website.

Looks like there should be an opportunity to see a wide range of performance cars strutting their stuff.

Hi all
I've been trying to get the list of ten people for the comparison day for 7 months in total,as it stands (including me)we are represented by the sum total of 3 yes three cars!!
The response has been dire,to say the least, there are ten cars listed on the trackdayplus.com website but 8 have dropped out for a varying list of reasons.
I for one am really looking forward to the event, but as your post says,it appears that the 3000 or so impreza owners on this bbs are not willing to roll out there cars and put there money where there mouths are!!
Kind regards
Simon

As a member of the 200plus club,I'm disappointed that more Scoobys aren't signed up for this. It's a chance to have a laugh and settle a few pub arguments.

just read the thread with interest, got a few comments:

there are no "max power type people" running it or organising it, i organised it myself, with help from the various clubs liason people, such as simon h.
we have got jap performance and redline coming, purely as they were kind enough to reply to the invite, unlike all the other mags, some of whom wanted it as their exclusive coverage for free in return for coming...

we havent made any major sponsorship deals, so we do need to cover the costs, at £70 per car. so far about 90% of the clubs are sorted, almost complete silence though from the scooby owners, upto this week or so!

probably 7 places left now for scoobs, and yes, we are running a timed handling course, in addition to 1/2 mile drag runs and top speed. RC developments have been generous enough to offer £250 worth of prize for the fastest scooby .

the class of cars coming is superb, as you will see. this is going to be an annual challenge, to find the top cars from each major group/club etc. would be nice to see the scoobs represented, but if the places dont fill by the end of june i will look elsewhere.

none of the other clubs has worried about being beaten, no one will be "shown up", its not being run on that basis, we are looking to get the top UK cars together, without any major queues, and to have some great fun .

quite a few people have emailed asking for details, as mentioned the entry form is available for you to sort it out, all the details are on the form and website.

£70 for such a day is good value ,in anyones book, and you will receive a copy of the video, with your car as part of the many stars, after the event, FOC if you take part.

so there you go. many thanks to simon for his best efforts to get you lot to pay up and attend, its now down to the first 7 or 8 of you to pay up and enjoy!
rest can spectate if you wish, 10 am entry.( prob £10 on gate per person.)

Chris,
I'm afraid it may have been my post that looks like
I'm suggesting it is a max power type of event. I
know from your initial post about the event that it
is an organised event mearly to test performance cars
against each other in a grown up informative way ,and manage
to have some fun while you are there. ;0
I was actually trying to say that it was Red Leader that was turning it into a max power debacle with his comments.
Anyway good luck with the event and I hope there are a few good
Scoobs there to show those other inferior vehicles how it is done.

Two winks due to current climate
