Default BYE BYE IMPREZA

Well after several months of falling in and out of love with my 2011 Impreza WRX STi saloon I have finally bit the bullet and p/x`ed for a Merecedes A35 4matic hatchback. To be honest I am really impressed with the Mercedes, the dashboard is a bit like a plane cockpit - I can even talk to the car and ask it to do things like change the radio station or set up a destination on the sat nav.
I have already got some mods in mind - remap up to about 365bhp and either a Milltech or Akrapovic exhaust.

So its goodbye from me and keep safe everyone.

The latest Mercs are very nice cars.
A bit unfair comparing a Subaru from 2011 with one as they are cars from different eras.

Enjoy your Merc, as said abit harsh to compare both cars.

I find it funny when people complain about plastic dash quality in an Impreza lol

My question would be, if your too busy looking at the dash, you don't know how to drive an Impreza

From a personal point of view I tried to sell my blobeye last month, some fella pulled out so I didn’t lose any money lost from work, I can honestly say that I’ve fell in love with my car again 😍😍

these cars really do have a love hate effect on us...what I will say though is that I’d never pay the money these cars are going for now especially since I bought mine so cheap

no chance....unfortunately for the car, whenever I’m in a bad mood the answer is to sell the car? No idea why.....

bad day in work, arguing with her, feel like crap...the poor car gets advertised. 😡

The problem with the Merc’s is , quick yes , competent yes , boring yes , every thing is done for you , the scooby you actually have to drive it that what makes it fun , and the scooby has character noise and looks wise , and is not just a boxy same looking modern car , a big criticism of the A45 was very quick but very boring , my vxr8 and my monaro for driving fun the monaro wins even though it’s probably slower , i reckon you will get bored of the merc and go back to the scooby 👍😁

Strange things, cars.

We want newer, quicker, quieter ones and then reminisce about noisier, slower, more engaging ones. Look at the classic car industry.

I say enjoy your time in the Merc, and maybe see you in a few years.

I would probably have 3 cars as usable keepers if time stood still and I had the space and money:-

1) A Golf R estate (had 2 of these - a brilliant all-rounder)
2) An Impreza P1 (have a regular Classic turbo)
3) Something fully electric (have a diesel hybrid)

Not me own 3 Subarus. Not interested in quiet smooth etc cars. If I was loaded I would love a Range Rover disco, just convince to go on holiday.

Sorry guys didn`t mean to slag the Impreza off, owned one since 2004 started with a blobeye STi with PPP, then had a mid life crisis and got a 2.0RX diesel hatchback, then back to another STi. However since I am fast approaching my 67th birthday at the end of this month I decided I needed something a little more refined but still as quick. Hence the purchase of the AMG A35.

Ignoring the reliability question, what was the RX diesel Impreza like ?

Should have been decent that one. I had a couple of 2.0 litre petrols in that shape - they just needed more torque!

Makes sense don't know how i would feel at that age, but i find i need a raw drive to keep me awake, more refined cars tend to make me want to asleep lol

My good mate has a 410bhp dsg golf R and it really is **** off a shovel, ridiculous 0-60 times but even he says it lacks the old school feel of a dying breed of car. Me and him grew up around cosworths..turbo lag, old school noise etc... he loves driving my Subaru because of the noise but admits that he wouldn’t feel confident racing in it with its 340bhp....after going in his golf I’m not surprised 😮

Not a bad motor really, firstly had a straight through exhaust made by Tony Banks in Leeds then had it remapped by Lichfield, when they did diesel tuning, to somewhere around 200bhp.
The car never missed a beat it had full leather interior, electric front seats plus a few more goodies but somehow it just didnt look right.

All this refined and boring new cars talk nonsense
went out in a work colleagues revo stage 2 golf R last week it was crazy
Pinned back into the seat the turbo hit hard
pops and bang through the miktek exhaust , lowered on springs car was glued in the corners and the Alcon revo brakes were mega I think what finished me off was the dct mapped box
rolling launch bang bang bang up the gears
aerious fun car would put most Imprezas to shame
nothing dull boring refined about it
Next level imo

You're referring to modified car. What's it like standard? One of my cars is bog standard. And isn't boring and engaging.

Mines fine. Never drive one so can't comment. Just all newer cars I've driven are quiet really refined, lack of feeling through steering, etc

Don't be bitter just because you threw thousands at yours and then only managed a few miles in 6 years.

I'm just thinking about the two standard Golf R (DSG only) estates I had. IMHO:-

+ All the performance you need as std (or easy, reliable, risk free upgrade)
+ Brilliant damping and absorption of surface changes at speed
+ Weighted steering (artificial or not)
+ Quick, smooth gearbox
+ Tons of lowdown torque, builds speed imperceptibly
+ Planted at all speeds
+ Good driving position, seats and wheel

- Too polished ?
- You don't have to work hard and can outperform 999/1000 cars in real world driving

my fleet is quite amusing
holden hsv maloo 6.2 v8 500 bhp , wheel spin in the wet to 103 mph 😂😂
monaro 5.7 12 k spent 450 bhp 36 mpg
Gtr r35 600 bhp 22.5 mpg 😂😂 650 ft pound 😂😂
three forester sti sg9 daily’s for me and the mrs , including a spare gearbox and a 2.5 lump for when the 2.5 probably does fail ☹️👍😁
still staying with above you can’t beat old school cars , modern cars great at going fast so it’s not they are not fun but you just loose some of the character , if i had to have one car out of all of them it would be the Fsti as it’s good at every thing ie , going quick , handing , noise , and 36 mpg if i drive carefully , and a sleeper , service wise easy to work on and not that expensive to run 👍😁 first gtr service was 1k£ for all fluids including brake fluid , i bought it as the old man passed ☹️ and i always wanted a gtr just put off by running costs 👍😁

Evo X FQ360....mate has one....wicked car.
Not outrightly much quicker than my 342bhp Hawk STi, but did have a slight bit more quality / refinement compared to mine. Not much, but enough to feel a bit more comfortable, bigger road presence, more planted and a 5 speed box with longer range gears, helped along with the MIVEC vvt system. Similar to how I could imagine a turbocharged Type R K20 I guess.

The 6 speed STi box is crazy short....up and down it like a yoyo...

i always liked the golf r , it’s a quick car but still looks very like a standard ish golf other than a small badge and the exhausts , so a good sleeper , the older golf r 0 to 60 same as my Fsti , the newer ones are quicker , the cost of a new golf r v a used gtr not a lot in it , 3.9 seconds for the golf v 2.8 seconds in a gtr when launched , gtr just floored no launch control is slightly over 3 seconds
