My wife took her 2005 WRX for a service at a Subaru dealer.
When it came back there was a misfire and the fault meter showed P0301.
Took it back to the dealer who connected it up to his diagnostic machine and couldn't find a fault.
Took it to a local garage who, after I'd told them about the belt change, took off the timing belt covers and announced the belt was one notch off. Attached is the picture they took.
Do you think it shows the belt as being one notch off?

you would need to look 'head on' to know for sure but it would appear to be correct, you would also need to see the crank and LH pulleys to confirm......

My wife was told that, in the first picture I posted, that the line at the top of the top pulley should match up with the notch at 2pm

Apart from it's been done in a strange way it seems to have come out ok. But as said you need to be in front of it really.

Subaru dealers 'normally' know what they are doing from doing flat four cambelts every week. What did they say about the misfire - if they charged good money they should take it on a road test to replicate.

from those pics again it appears to be correct, there is normally a slight discrepancy on the Pass bank but they have decided to align those pulleys and so it appears to have a minor difference on the central crank and Drivers side pulleys.....

The third party garage said I was one tooth offer, the quvalent of 1.4 degrees, which is not so easy to see, is it?

its not aligned on the crank when you look at all photos and without seeing it in person it 'looks good' ??
regardless even if its 1x tooth out its not your misfire cause IMO........

If that is the way it is at the moment it would not take very long to remove the belt and reinstall using the provided belt marks.
As Stockcar said the alignment tool is usually used on the other bank.
