Question

I have just bought an Escort Cabriolet, maybe this is the wrong place to ask - but as you are all very clever on here, could someone hazard a guess as to why the rev counter shows the correct idle speed (850), but when the engine is revved up it SLOWLY goes to a max of 2000rpm and then drops back to idle when throttle released???

Any clues??

Pete

Perhaps the voltage stabilisation unit on the back of the dial unit is playing up?

Another way to solve the problem.
Unlike the Scooby, Haynes do a repair manual plus also a fault code manual and I think there is an injection diagnostic book as well.
There may also be a fault code reader available from Gunson at the same establishment.
With a Ford, you're gonna be seeing a lot more of Halfords in the future

Hey, I went to Halfords in Basildon a while ago! There was a HUGE section for go - faster stripes, chrome tail trims, furry dice etc. etc.
- Amazing - Perhaps they do gold rev counter dials - just for you Pete!

Well, remember that this is just a fun car for the summer, at 30mpg!! yippee!!

The Scoobie is still here having a rest!!

Theres the wifes car too!!

Voltage stabilization unit normally affects the fuel guage too I think!!??

BTW its the Ghia CARB version from 1987!!!

What the hell - Think of the petrol I am saving!! saving the planet!!

Just spent my first £10 worth of petrol in it!!! lasted for 110 miles - now, if my maths serve me right that is 39 mpg!!!!! Bloody hell - last time I saw those numbers I was driving a Calibra!!

At this rate the petrol saved over 3000 miles will pay for the insurance on it AND a good service - you cant lose!!

The feeling one has when you realise the clutch isnt juddering, the hesitation at 3000 RPM feature has been ignored by Ford of the Eighties, the underseal is still where it should be, the cost to service is measured in £10's NOT £100's!!

I love my scoobie - but, was it worth £20,000 more than this Cabriolet???

Monsieur Lewis,

I had a escort cab behind me the other day, in red, it was a glorious sunny day and i must confess to thinking of you....

each year i think of buying a cab, but always end up spending the money on something else... but maybe next year. Personally would prefer some sort of classic, but keep us all updated on your long term test...

Dave P

p.s. what do you charge for a wash and blow dry.....

Judging by the number of constructive responses you have recieved perhaps your inverted snobbery has backfired on you. As does your car no doubt. You should stick to winding up members of this forum and subsequently offering them out, slagging off more expensive impreza models whilst simultaneously undermining the value of your own car.

I think that it is fantastic that you love your impreza yet are enjoying your escort cab equally. Most people probably think the same but are unable to express this as you are such an offensive/objectionable individual.

Its great Butty!!!

Unlike some on here I do not go around with my head stuck up my 4rse and 'do' what everyone else 'does' - If I see a way to enhance my quality of life I take it, regardless of what anyone might think. Now, as I said some time before - if you care to come and call me a hairdressers tart then do it ....... or shut up!

BTW Butty - just out of interest, do you have Gold Wheels????????? and if so which salon do you perm in?

AL_SATION - newbie, so you shouldnt know me that well.....do I detect that you are one of the 'old farts' coming on as someone different??

BTW I have German Shepherd Dogs (Alsations) and I object strongly you taking their name in vain, they are very intelligent - you sir are a complete 4rse and as such please change your name to Ba_Boon (suits you much better!)
