25/6/2002: Subaru megadealers part of five-year growth plan
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuji Heavy’s five-year management plan, dubbed ‘Fuji Dynamic Revolution-1’, will see the diversified group will focus its efforts on the automotive business. “FHI will focus on automobile operations as its core business, and it reorganises the company structure as it functions to change FHI's corporate culture accordingly.
“As for non-automotive divisions, the company will discontinue certain unprofitable operations, select other promising growth divisions and make them independently operating internal companies, and concentrate its management resources on growth areas.”

By March 2007 FHI intends to increase turnover to Y1,840 billion (US$15 billion), a 35% jump from sales in the fiscal 2001/ 2002 and achieve a 24% increase in operating profit to Y110 billion. Net profits are projected to increase by 88% to Y57 billion.

The global sales target of 760,000 units would be made up of 350,000 in Japan (up 25% from 2001/02), 280,000 in North America (up 37%), 60,000 in Europe (up 100%) and 70% in other markets (up 67%). In all then, overseas sales would amount to 410,000 units, up 48%.

Officials says there will be five all-new model launches during the timeframe of the ‘Dynamic Revolution-1’ plan and Fuji Heavy is already taking action to revamp its sales structure to give them a fighting chance of success. It will open a number of megadealers in Japan, Australia and the US, all equipped with spacious new car showrooms, used vehicle showrooms, extensive repair shops, entertainment facilities and a small test track designed to show Subaru’s 4x4 technology to best advantage.

Following an investment of around Y2 billion (US$16.5 million), the company recently been opened the first of these giant outlets in Melbourne, Australia. The outlet targets monthly sales of 200 vehicles, or about 10 times the rather paltry rate of the firm's standard dealerships.

Plans call for similar outlets in the US and Japan. Up to four will be opened each year through 2007 in the mid-western states of America. Metropolitan Tokyo will be the focus of the development effort in Japan.
