If you go for the MY02 you are already £600 down just for changing the headlamps - what a waste of everybody's time <=my00 all the way here in Scoobyshire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you may remember that I once was the proud owner of a MY98 5 door that was 'capable' on trackdays.
The fact is, I miss it all and I'm considering returning to the fold (stop rubbing your hands together, Mr Croney )
So, which is the better platform to start from, MY02 5 dr. or older versions (remember, the amount saved on an older versions can buy more mods!!!)

I dont think you invalidate the warrenty for changing the lamps. A lot of dealers will do this for you.
I love the look of the MY01/02 5 door on the back of the latest true grip.
A good dealer will not invalidate the warrenty for putting a decat on too.

I for one would like to see you fill your garden shed up with bits again You still got them tyres I offered to relieve you of?
Howabout an MY99 as a project base over an MY98 or previous? Serious & not just 'cos I have one, but slightly better building blocks in terms of engine reliability, different (or more modern) styling, 4-pots & 16" wheels. Again, 'cos of ECU probs, pos a better bet than an MY00 as well.
The MY01/2 Wagon is still a nice car though, but as you said, bank balance adversely affected 'cos of the extra cost of new I think (dunno for sure) that you'd find it harder to get the same performance out of one as your old motah! Mainly 'cos they're heavier.
Old wallet magnet does do all the u/grade bits for both cars but it might be telling that he couldn't get away in his MY01 & eventually gave way to ( ) a simillarly spec'd PTMW!
Welcome back m8

You most certainly don't invalidate the warrenty for changing the lamps. The morettes have a SACC code (Subaru ACCessory code) now, there is also the UK300 style unit you can go for!
£600 for the lamps where did you buy them and get them painted!
I'm sure Mr Croney or Paul at TSL or even any Subaru dealer would care to beat that rice (unless they really went up since I bought them).

Well, possibly one of them 280bhp standard beasties together with the "SStandard" mods might tickle the old fancy
Don't forget all the P1s & STis that have had to give way - so prehaps having a full power one would be just the ticket

Sti V 5dr, full ss exhaust, APS cold air, Leda B, Steve Lawson header matching service, maybe a FMIC.......could give PTMW and DJ's Red 5 a run for their money (ps. I'll skip the P1 front spoiler though )
Looked on autotrader for a STI V. Found one in Horsham, not far from me......wonder what I'll get for the SAAB
