I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but here goes anyway....
1.Why is it that when I drive our P1 I get no attention whatsoever, but when my wife drives everyone gives her a hard time i.e. tailgating or trying to overtake even when she is taking the kids to school early in the morning and mid afternoon.
(Yes my wife can drive it quickly.)
2.Is there an aloofness amongst P1 drivers, I know of at least 6 P1's local to me, but if we pass one on the road its the stare ahead routine or even look the other way.
3.In fact most Impreza drivers tend to ignore a passing acknowledgement unless they
are under 25.
4.The only Impreza drivers which seem to be
genuinely friendly are import owners i.e. WRX

I'm sure that this will provoke some comments
and look forward to it.....!

Mmmmmm,
I think any aloofness that *you* are being a victim to is perhaps more to do with where you live rather than the car you drive.....
Stop being so paranoid......!
Now - what were you saying about 'provoking comments'???????

I've got responses from other P1s I've seen, including when I've been parked up and one passed by with a hoot of the horn. I think more non-enthusiasts are driving scoobs now, so they don't flash the headlights as much (esp in hilly areas where they are driven by sensible old gits - apologies in advance to all insensible old gits out there). Your wife is probably getting the problems coz of macho idiots who can't take seeing a woman driving a nice fast car. Got to ignore the idiots and lead by example.

Think you'll find the High Wycombe/ Aylesbury / Beaconsfield owners all wave. Or did when I had a P1. However I did see a 50/60 year old in a P1 today and wondered if he would of now where's Bob

It's nice to know you are amongst friends.... Besides there are too many miserable people out there driving like *****, and life too short not to be able to afford a wave for a fellow enthusiast. Plus, if i see another Scoob in a car park, i always park next to it. One way i guess of ensuring your doors don't aquire dents......

My other half drives my car (when she can find where i have hidden the keys) she is 30(ish), Blonde and attractive (after a fashion - that should drop me in it big time, she also frequents Scoobynet).
She gets tailgated and cut up and raced in my MY99 - Same happens in her Puma but not so much. She can drive (damn well but don't tell her i said so).
Mostly, she gets grief from middle aged blokes in Merc's, BM's Audis - exec saloon type cars - seems the owners going through the male Menoporsche. Jenny does not seem to mind she either smiles sweetly and or flips them the bird (or worse). In my car she can usually leave them for dead - weather, roads, traffic and GATSO's permitting. - Now that must really get them down

BTW i always wave at other Scoobies - seem to less of a response these days - I even wave at the MY01's then i have always had a charitable streak and never taken advantge of the afflicted.

BTW#2 - the same goes for me i get more grief off of middle aged execs than the Max Power brigade.

BTW the only P1 i have seen on the road apart from Josh's (Josh could qualifly for my next remark) was being drive by a middle-aged lady who looked at me 'gone out' when i waved.

I only ever seem to see P1's parked up apart from a nice man at Donnington (sorry, can't remember his name) who offered me a ride round the track next time i saw him there - I do not forget a face though.

I think quite simply that the 'average' P1 owner isn't an enthusiast and probably got the car as a company car, so wouldn't give a hoot about the scooby culture. Wheras the 'average' STI/import owner is more of an enthusiast (after all it is more of a specialist car and not available through Subaru dealers) and therefore more liable to be a waver.

Cool

I have never had any problems with tailgaters or trafficlight drag racers whilst driving my Scoob, but my wife says she gets hassle quite a lot from the Max Power, puffer jacket brigade when she is out in the Scoob alone.

She just tends to string them along for a few yards and then floor it leaving them for dead!!

are you having a laugh!!. I had a my99 for 2 years & 57k b4 my p1 and loved it to bits, added mods to it during my time with it and put it on track . I wave as most turbo drivers do. 'Average P1 driver', my ****!!

I have met all sorts driving this car at track days and nearly all love there cars no matter what model they drive. It does not matter imho if you own or have the car as a company car.

Scrappy

There are quite a few P1's around the south bucks area. Adams have sold in excess of 30, and SGT a few. There are a number of owners around Penn, Hazlemere. Holmer Green and Beaconsfield. We need another South Bucks meet for them all to turn up.

Chuckdog

It would be interesting to see how many company car drivers actually got the choice of a P1. Its pretty unusual to see an Impreza on the list let alone a P1. I used to run my STI V as my Rep car, and there are a few others as well. Most P1 owners are true Scooby nuts as well as STI boys.

Bob's to old to get his hand up and wave let alone anything else!!!!!!
Most people seem to acknowledge in bristol, and all of the P1 owners i know are enthusiasts whether company or private owned.

I always wave, too old, cheeky whippersnapper.
Also I can get into a P1 coat
I am always at the meets and try to encourage others to go. Is it my fault the people in the SW want to stay at home and watch TV.
Edited to say I am thinking of joining the Staffs or Surrey meets as they get a better turnout.

Providing I see the car in time I always wave. I even waved at a MY01 yesterday (although he didn't wave back)

Chuckdog,

I'm afraid that I would have to agree with Simon, for one, in that every P1 owner I know personally has owned at least one Impreza before, and in at least 1 case it's their third.

You seem to believe the comments made by one or two of the 'old guard' that the only enthusiasts are import owners, and that P1's are not bought by existing owners. Cobblers.

There are no fewer enthusiasts out there, it's just they no make up a smaller percentage of owners, and the MY01 will just exaggerate things further.

I don't class many of the folks on this BBS as average I'm afraid. We are the minority. SO I didn't aim my comment at those who are reading this thread. Don't get so easily offended guys!
When I got my first scoob they were very rare indeed, and owning one was like being a member of an exclusive club. Nowadays they are very very common - how many times do I go for a drive of an hour and not see at least one other scoob?

Neil,

I missed Paul quote, but I presume then that the other P1 Paul saw was yours, you old woman you!

Josh

Paul if you'd wanted to see P1's you should have made it to the Speed and Feed. I think half the production run attended.

Jack Clark please wave at the next scooby you see or hand your keys in at the next dealership you pass.

That comes from the same book of questions and comments as...

...What's this beer stuff then?...What do you want electricty for?...and, I don't know what you see in chairs....

I think you all take this far too seriously did it ever cross your minds that it is perhaps a little strange to wave at complete strangers and expect them to wave back? I wave at good looking women all the time and they never wave back.
