I have noticed some import 93> impreza's with
rear wipers and map reading lights. Were these ever available on the uk models ? also
the aircon controls look different.

Welcome to the joys of Subaru UK, they down spec your car over the Japanese model, then make you pay more for it, all for the holy grail of "warrenty"
quick run down
Power 276bhp? nah the Brits don't want that give them 216.
Climate control? , nah give em an aircon button and thats it.
Electrically folding colour coded wing mirrors? nah give em black manual ones.
Rear wash wipe? nah give em nothing
Map lights? nah interior light will be fine
Nice seats? nah let em wait a few years for those.

Not only the Brits, the rest of the world too, apart from Japan and to some extent Australia, cause at least Subaru Australia made an effort to bring 4 or 5, 22b's and 800 official STI's.
