Yes they are everywhere, every man and his dog has one in Sydney, used to see them everywhere. In Greece I only see one every month. Naturally I had to buy one after moving here and brought all my performance parts with me from OZ including one of those nice sounding exhausts a 5 Ziggen system. I used to go to my m8's workshop, Croydon Autosports, in Sydney and out of 20 cars in the workshop 13 would be Scoobs waiting for mods.
Cheers,

Yes there is a slant to drag strip tuning as Eastern Creek Raceway hold street meetings on 2 Wednesdays every month and well most people go. However lots of performance places such as MRT tune for track racing.

Weekend evenings on Bondi Beach....more Scoobs (& every other lowered, big exhausted, fat tyred car) than you can poke a stick at.
Not sure these examples go around corners though....just between the lights
There's a definite drag strip slant to Aussie Scoob tuning.

Rsquire,
When did you move to the States? I just saw some of your posts on 22b bbs, posted last year in the southern hemisphere sections. What type of rex did you own ? Was it one of the 5, 22B's in OZ? Do you still own a Scooby?

Very interesting fellas.
Dowser I too have the electronic boost controller with stock ECU settup and seems to work although I want to go to Powerstation in the UK for a Unichip as I don't feel safe running the car like this. I have been re assured its OK from the gurus in OZ for the amount of boost I'm running 1.2bar, but have been transformed after joining and reading the bbs.
I used to own 2 of those fat tyred cars you mentioned, one, that liked going straight, a Ford Falcon GT XA Coupe 10 sec street animal and a Holden Commodore HSV Group A (Walkinshaw) which was built for the track from the factory as it won Bathurst in 1990.
I finally saw the light and got converted to Scoobs and bought one. I left Sydney a year ago.
Saabs were quite popular in OZ
As for the larger scoop I don't know but it could have been from GS Motor Bodies, +61295464135
Or SSV

I migrated to Oz from UK & was in Sydney for 5 years. Didn't own a Scoob then (money!) - I bought an old Saab turbo....cost much less than the Scoob to buy.....but they charged like a wounded bull for servicing. Should have bought the Scoob
In Switzerland for the time being - but *will* go back to Oz one day. I was back for a month early this year, hence the comments on Cambell Pde. - made the mistake of staying in the Swiss Grand!
But also saw a lot of v.nice cars - agree that the likes of MRT and a few others know what they're doing. There's a different culture there too - it seems quite normal to slap on a bigger turbo/intercooler with just the stock ecu and electronic boost/fuel control....seems to work
Actually - I saw an STi that had a larger bonnet scoop. It looked very professional - anyone know the supplier?

This thread is really depressing me .....
I grew up in Australia ( Brisbane, Cairns ), and moved back to England when I was 13. Since then, I've been stuck in a country with no summer, an endless winter, ridiculously bad roads and a police force thats turning into a profit-making organisation. And all the while, I think back to the sunny land I left behind.
I could even get a job in my line of work back in Oz (computer games), my partner says if I want to I should, everything says to go....
... apart from my Scooby ! Sorry if this sounds pitiful, just homesick, even after 20 years !

If you've got knock and lamda sensors, and they don't give cause for concern, then no worries You still running the oe turbo?
I'll have an HSV when I go back, thanks - may as well get between the Sydney traffic lights quickly

Richard,
I have ordered the Knocklink with the monitor, separate knock sensor and waterproof plug, I spoke to my m8 in OZ last night and he said it should be leaving OZ today. I don't have a lambda link though. I thought the knocklink would be sufficient. Am I wrong?
A quick run down on the mods all brought with me from OZ:
5 Ziggen exhaust midsection and backbox (catless mid),
APS cold air induction with K&N filter,
Fuel cut defender,
Blitz DSBC 1.2 bar peak,
Blitz blow off valve,
Blitz dual turbo timer,
Knocklink coming.
I lower the boost to around 1.1 1.15 bar for summer.
Oh, almost forgot I'm still running the stock turbo, although my m8 has ideas of sending me a vf22 or23. I always confuse the two, that is which is the better of the two.
HSV's, brilliant cars, there's nothing like the sound of a V8. The Scoobs come close but the eight has the edge soundwise.
Tiger, what state is your town in? That's quite some ratio of Scoobs to people.
Cheers

Hi Wrexy
The knocklink will notify you of detonation....which means you're running lean.
I'm no expert, but lamdalink tells you the air/fuel ratio - so yes, you don't *need* the lamda (knock means you're lean!).....but it's nice to know (& see) the mixture status through the rev range, rather than just when you've a problem. It will also warn you you're running too rich for instance.
For you, I guess it'd let you set boost to maximum using the lamda.....rather than the dangerous method of waiting for knock
I must admit to also not yet fitting my lamda link - want to spend some time trying to mount the leds from both units somewhere discrete (ugly black boxes!). But then, I've only got the PPP with induction & exhaust mods at the moment.

Richard,
Thanks for that m8. Good points on the lamdalink. I'll have to get one now, so I know the mixture throughout the rev range and yes I'll be able to set max boost before any knocking. I agree about the fitting of the ugly boxes. I still haven't made up my mind where I'm going to fit the knocklink monitor, let alone the lambdalink. They need to be fitted somewhere they could be seen. The Knocklink definitely viewable and the lambda I suppose once you know the mixtures and set boost accordingly, could be in a less viewable place such as the centre glovebox, then if you need a look you would open it. I'm no expert either and I could be wrong, maybe both have to always be viewable.
Thanks again,
WREXY.
