Hi All,

Was driving along around 50 mph when i heard a very loud bang - my rear screen had imploded into the car

I have just had the rear screen replaced around 5 weeks ago.

Anyone else had this ??

Smart Cars had a problem with the window heater that caused this - was yours on at the time?

That'll teach you to break wind from the comfort of your own car!!
i havent heard of it in a scooby, but it is common on clios, mostly at a standstill while closing the door(buildup of pressure in a small space???)
the turbo does suffer from chassis flex due to loads of power/grip,it is usually the front windows that come away from the seal on a right severe corner at speed, stange at 50mph (on a straight???)
regards

Purely curious - I have an RB5, why did your rear screen need replacing in the first place?

<IT> - the reason for the original replacement was when i bought the car (from a Subaru dealer) there were some deep scratches in the rear screen, so a replacement was agreed FOC.

I'd go back to the subaru dealer and get them to replace it again properly for free.
There is no way this should happen and seems a bit of a conicidence.
If the dealer doesnt help give IM a call.
That is shoddy workmanship.

Good luck.

the turbo does suffer from chassis flex
The RB5 shouldn't suffer as much flex as the Turbo, particularly around the rear screen, because of the fixed rear seats.

Most odd. Sounds like poor fitting.

spoke to the dealer, they do not believe it was a result of their fitting and proving so is particularly difficult in light that i have thousands of pieces of glass. However, they said they will replace the screen or i can get the insurance company to replace the screen and they will pay for my screen excess.

in light that the insurance screen people can fix the screen quicker and window claims do not affect my no claims bonus - i am going for this option.

seems all abit odd to me

Just a thought!

(Reality Check off)
There wasnt three Honda Civics following you with a bloke hanging out the roof of one of them was there?.(/Reality check on)

I dont think you should worry too much, as stated the RB5 has a stiffer body and as glass an only break when stressed it must have been fitted badly.

Sounds like it was not fitted correctly.

Had a windscreen replaced and it cracked in the identical place to the one it replaced..
I then moaned and they claimed that there must have been a weakness in the car structure and that is why it cracked again etc..
the first screen was a definite stone chip..

I basically said bollox and suggested that the area was not cleaned properly before the new screen was put in..
They removed the cracked screen and noticed exactly what I said..
there was a small piece of class from the previous screen causing pressure on that part of the screen edge etc..

Mine was a front screen and therefore laminated so just cracked..
rear screen is obviously not laminated and therefore imploded.

How long ago was it fitted? there should be some garrentee with it.. at least they are taking some responsibiliy by paying the excess but I feel they should replace it.

<JGM> - the rear screen was replaced 6 weeks ago. the main problem, which the dealer pointed out, was that no one can prove who is at fault with a thousand pieces of glass. Although they would replace the screen if the insurance company did not cover the glass, their preference was that the insurance take care of the glass.
In light that the insurance people can get the job done quicker, my no claims are not effected and my excess is being paid for, I opted for the quicker route.
Also, a different person working on the glass replacement - see what happens this time !!
