Excuse the length of this. I feel it's important to share the fruits of 4 weeks of research.

I've arranged a group buy for an LE850 Laser Diffuser :

£230 fully delivered and inc VAT, this is a saving of 70 quid on RRP.

Contact Derek at Networks Automotive and mention the scoobynet laserdiffuser
group buy.

Chris,

Not done it myself but check this out. I'd personally get someone, like an Car ICE/Alarm fitter to do it

Question

Neil

Lots of interesting info, thanks for the time you've obviously put in.

Do you think the police now or in the future do/will start targeting cars from behind to combat front mounted diffusers? S'pose you'd have to mount a rear one as well.

Rear targetting is carried out in very rare occasions. One of the features of the LE-850 is that you can plug another diffuser array into the control unit for rear protection. No idea how much they are seperatley mind.

I've got the Snooper - but am very interested in this rear protection thing?

Presumably they dont interfere with each other - can someone look into who can fit them - I aint electronically minded - £230 sounds a bargain

A couple of questions.

Will the diffuser work if the laser gun is not pointing directly at it, e.g. it is pointed at the windscreen when the diffuser is mounted in the grill.

I read about a new speed detection system undergoing trials at present - a catseye mounted camera - which sounds really sneaky. Will it work against this?

The blinder was going to be my first choice. But on further investigation it turns out it has (according to suppliers) a high failure rate because it lets in water and it eventually corrodes the electronics inside.

The LE850 does the same job but does'nt have the water ingress problem.

The group buy is running now and lasts for 4 weeks. Just call Derek on the above number

I believe the beam expands with distance, as it's low power device(not like a star wars turbo laser or anything) at 150 feet the beam is about 18 inches wide, at the usual spotting distance of 300-400 feet it's nearly 3 feet wide. The spot aimed at is the number plate or other flat surface. If it's aimed at the windscreen then the reflection is too great and the readings become unreliable.

Neil,

I am very interested in this deal that you have sorted out. My father has the Blinder M10-Twin, also known as the Snooper SLD920 i think, certainly looks the same on

When is this happening?

Are there alternative models worth considering?

AFAIK Laser has to be pointed at a flat area of the car, ie the number plate or the signal gets scattered so much they cant get a reading anyway !

Neil,

Quick question. Where do you plan to mount the laser device and more specifically the control unit?

Regards
Paul

Neil,

o.k. I am going to order one today. You've convinced me and it is obvious you have done a lot of research on this matter.

Now can you get us a group buy on the morpheous?

Cheers
Paul

Neil

Just FYI, rear detection is on the increase as plod sits at the top of a m/way slip road with the laser gun resting on top of the dash. Be careful out there.

Lots of interest in them recently, so top!

BTW I recieved this email from someone who'd bought one(not from me BTW).

"Me and the missus heading up the A????.
All of a sudden SCREEECCHHHH!!! Made me jump out of my skin!

Missus is going whats that whats that??
Realised it was the laser thing. Checked my speed...85 in a 70. Gentle slowed to 70, turned off the unit, all in less than 5 secs. But we couldnt see plod. Ah well says me, must be fluke.

Then we get to the brow of the hill, about 1/2 a mile away, and theres the old bill, parked up over the brow, back passanger door open, lasering every poor bugger on the road. Had set himself up so that you couldnt see the car, but his line of site was straight down the hill We really didnt see him until 100 yards to go???

I've got the Snooper SLD920. Paid well short of £300 and got the SD815iSignature 5 band laser/rader detector for free...!

SLD920 has alreadfy foiled 2 laser attempts - like to see if the networx product is good.

Just had mine fitted today. Looks really good, or rather its quite difficult to see. My friend couldn't even spot it.

Cost £45 to fit from a local audio shop and the control unit is mounted where the ashtray is on velco strips. Fits in quite nicely!

What I want now is some info on the other things the device can do so I have some excuses if I ever get pulled. I notice on the box that it has a distance from car in front diagram? If I could get that running then what an excuse. "Its a safety measure officer, just reminds me know of the 2 second gap rule" . Anyone know where I might find out how to install the other things it does?

I thought the LE850 was originally developed as a garage door opener, not sure about the distance thing?

If it does do the distance thing could it be used as a parking aid?

I too would be interested in the other features and add-ons. I believe it can take another transponder for rear protection, can these be bought separately?
