Making the Scoob look less "nickable"
#2
AL-SATION.... LOL
Had a cat 1 alarm/ immobiliser, but no tracker. However I want to try a multi pronged approach so to speak. Some of the ideas so far have been helpful. BTW, anyone know how much a front mounted intercooler is?

Maybe not so much making it LOOK less nickable but consider the following....
Get an internal siren...no scum like 120DB in their ears.
Get an immobiliser/alarm that will shut down everything, activate sirens/lights and page you if a hidden button is not pressed within say 20 seconds of starting the engine.
Get one of those numberplates that drop down to reveal STOLEN if a button is not pressed after starting engine.
Maybe a small sticker in the window that says "Vehicle protected by CS gas, you go blind, i get fined".
Consider removing airbagged wheel, get a snap-off boss and a nice Momo.
Don't have ICE on show, stelf shelf a must if you have any rear six be nines or other shelf mounted speakers.
Have different locking nut type on each wheel.
Remove some fuses/HT leads if you leave your beloved for a longer period, e.g. while on holiday.
Make sure you have a tilt sensor for alarm.
Thats about it for me.
Oh and hide your spare keys somewhere even you will have trouble finding them and keep your main set somewhere silly and unthinkable in your house. I had a break in last week. The police reckon they were looking for spare keys while I was out so they could come back and just drive it away at night because they went away empty handed and didn't even touch my Marantz hi-fi, Pioneer DVD player or anything else.
Hope this helps.

You don't need to get them to do it, they do it without encouragement.

PX it for a Justy?????
Sorry, not funny. Apart from lock it away out of sight when not in use, and be careful where you leave it, not much you can do.
Removing the bonnet scoop is not a good idea - will result in lack of airflow to the intercooler, probable loss of power (inlet temp going up) and on a tuned car may lead to detonation.

Sneaky police forces make a turbo look like a sport by swapping wheels and removing bonnet scoop (fitting 'sport' bonnet) BUT they need to have a front mounted intercooler for the reason Dave stated above - although a FMIC does offer performance advantages as well.......

You could consider getting a 5-D? They seem to be less obvious - especially when seen from the back.
I'm not saying they won't be a target, just may be not such a big one.

Get a wagon instead of a saloon That's what i did.
You could remove the bonnet scoop, but it is there for a reason, to allow air into the intercooler, remove the scoop and the IC won't be too happy. Obviously you could remove the scoop and get a front mount intercooler, but that's a little excessive to make it look less appealing to thieves.
I do worry about leaving the blackbeast, but what can I do. Of course, there may be a rather large Weimaraner in the back, which might shock any would be theives.
To be honest, if someone nicked the beast then I think I'd know about it, a) it's loud, and b) as any one who has seen it can agree, it's somewhat unqiue and distintive, especially with the dents in it at the moment.

Buy a five door and get a small child to urinate over the back seats. Redefines the term "slashed seats".
On a serious note - would a tracker or cat 1 alarm have helped you, or did you already have these. If not what kind of security did you have? or is it all pointless, in which case I will move on to number two's.

5dr owners,
what on earth are you getting 5drs for if you let children use the seats- mine stay in the back behind the dog guard.
at 14 they'll be able to sit in the back, at 21 they can sit in the front passenger and if they ever sit in the drivers seat then they're back behind the dog guard.
dont you people have rules???

No new Scoob yet, just want to get myself pre-armed before getting another, especially as the insurers told me they would be straight back and to get myself a Volvo instead??? He obviously doesnt get it!
Wow Nat 21, lots of James Bond goodies. Its funny, I'd thought about a snap off steering wheel, and maybe something that emits a deafening noise. Any idea where you can get such toys?

Get tracker monitor!! - If your car moves they will call 3 specified phone no's to see if the car is secure, only time it won't work is if you go on the p1ss into town with everyone in your street! - I will have it fitted to every car i own from now on (unless it's a metro!

I get my cars painted like rallycars. Yep, lotsa people hate the Richard Burns - Dukes of Hazard - Starski & Hutch appearance and think i'm a **** but who's gonna nick my flashmobile? Nobody.

Hunk interesting, thought maybe of getting stickers like "driven by a girl" in bright pink with a flowery backdrop - might put the macho crims off, but could I live with it?
DeerHunter, was gioing to get a tracker anyway, although worryingly a few people have said they can detect em, but I'm sure along with other devices its a help

If you get a gearbox lock, steering lock, thatcham cat 1 alarm/imobilser and a tracker, no thief will touch it.
The only way they can shift it with all this on it is by sticking it on a low-loader, in any case the motion sensor of the tracker will then start singing.

A 5 door is the answer - always park face-in - looks like nothing special then - also, there is little street cred to be gained in nicking an 'Estate car'.
Forget the drainpipe exhaust, it just tells EVERYONE that you are there and LOUD
Forget the bigger than thou spoiler, it just shouts out 'Look at me I have a big spoiler and a 'little *****'
Forget the Gold Wheels, it just tells everyone you are a tart and couldnt fight your way out of a paper bag
Forget the Tracker, do you REALLY want it back??????
Pete

Amanda,
i know it's not uncrackable, but, something we should all consider, as another measure, those posted earlier all sound good, c'ept the 'get a justy' one, (if you got the std sigma alarm/immobiliser), is the super lock, security lock, off the top of my head, put your keys in, press 9 on the little number pad when the ignition is on, remove your keys, walk away, press the button on the key fob to set the alarm, then when you go back, press the button again, it lets you in, but you try starting the bugger - wont happen until you press your 'unique' code into the number pad....1 piece of advice though...don't forget your code..... .
well, a short reply from me, sorry babe...hehehe
