Second-hand Scoobies?

Been looking on the trader and was pretty surprised at the price of second hand Imprezas, J-reg and upwards going for £4k doesn't seem a lot for a Scooby (must be a dog?), though admittedly I am lacking in knowledge when it comes to the differences between models.
£6-£7k seems to get you quite a lot of Scoob, why are they cheap, or aren't they?
I've been racking my brains for weeks about what car to get next and the Subaru seems to epitomise everything I want from a car so I am seriously looking into one.
Anybody have anything to say regarding the price, models and things I can expect for £4-7k?
Any comments, discussion or abuse most welcome.
Cheers in advance.

I paid £7k for a MY96 WRX (M reg), 38,000 miles, good condition and standard except for 17inch rims and a new cd autochanger. Bought off a friend so no profit for a trader and I knew the last 18 months history, Cambelt change, servicing etc.

Second hand Scooby prices have been pretty much been in freefall in recent months.
Where once there were more buyers than cars, there are now definitely more cars than buyers.
As a result, sellers are being forced to drop their prices to secure a sale, which is pushing prices down across the entire used Scooby marketplace.
Now is a great time to be buying a Scooby, as you can get a whole lot of car for not such a lot of money.
Andy.

Thanks for the replies, pretty much as I thought.
Problem is I would have to finance it from a garage as I wouldn't have 7 large hanging about.
At least I would get to test drive it though.
Would have to be the right side of 250Bhp though, not very impressed by the poverty spec 207Bhp jobs, Uk spec I believe.

Yeah, good point, forgive my ignorance. I suppose it's only a few pennies away from better power.
What exactly does a pro-drive kit consist of?
What sort of £££ to Bhp do the scoobies get? I mean like for under £500 u can get another 30bhp from a Cossie... that sort of thing.

"I think" the pro-drive kit is:
>suspension
>ECU
>back box
>brakes
not sure though.
BHP for pounds... hmmm.
500quid will get you a 3" decated exhaust and some form of induction/panel filter. About 35bhp in total. Lots of other things might get you 1 or 2 bhp here and there, dawes device, dump values etc.
after that its silly moeny -> remapped ECU's (400quid+), front mounted intercoolers.
don't expect to get over much over ~300bhp though.
Best place to look is the SIDC FAQ's. Everything (well alomst) is in there. The search facility here can also be helpful, just make sure you search for subject with more than 3 characters in the title, i.e. "PPP" won't get any hits.
hope that helps.
jeez, here's me sounding like an old hat at this...
