Revs magazine - Feb 2000 issue, Impreza 22B article

New Impreza article in Feb issue of "REVS"
On the 17th December, I took Theodore's monster 22B to Bruntingthorpe track day. Revs magazine were there covering the event and asked I would be willing to chaperone the car for photography.
Even with me giving them a spec sheet on the car they cannot get it right. They got my name wrong and everything they quote from me is nothing like what I said. Anyone who has spoken to me several times will know I don't use that vocabulary in written form or verbal dialogue.
I will be writing a letter of complaint to Revs. Does anyone have the address handy - my principles do not allow me to purchase a copy of their poor magazine.
<Momentary lapse of standards>
What a fupping bunch of Tossers.
<Normal service resumed>

Is this the same crew that did that stupid article about Scoobys as the number one getaway car and then gave mealy-mouthed answers to those who wrote in to complain? If so, I wouldn't expect too much from them.

I'm not sure of the exact address, however, they are based at the Orton Centre in Peterborough and are part of EMAP publishing.
If you want to complain I suggest going to EMAP as Revs is likely to be completely staffed by people of a similar mentality !

Cheers,
Firstly I have no particular objection to the performance tuning magazines such as Max Power and Revs - a high proportion of the cars that have been featured, may not be everyone's taste, but they've invested heavily in both time and money to make their car a little different to everyone else's, and the quality of many is very good (The ropy XR3's and Novas withstanding)
Its the magazines attitude that stinks. They do not seem to have a social conscience. Their target audience must be late teens and early twenties, and the magazines penchant for burnouts and general hooliganism is not good.
Their previous issue that suggests than an Impreza is an ideal getaway car has worried many owners and this issue they demonstrate poor journalism.
This should be a worry to all Impreza owners. Not only is their car now in reach of your better-off hoodlum - (94 WRX's for £ 8500), but it is being given publicity of the worst kind.
What will happen?
Impreza Insurance will rocket
Impreza theft will increase
Impreza residual values will be harmed further.

Pumpkin,
I had the same thing happen when my car was featured (same magazine). I faxed them a copy of the spec sheet (about five times actually, as they hadn't acknowledged receipt of it like I had requested), and yet they STILL got fundemental facts wrong, although they must have read some of it, as there were certain details in there that were correct that they could't have got from anywhere else. Also, the bit that I was alleged to have said was total fabrication, and having spoken to some of the others that were in the same feature, so was what they had allegedlly said!
The Lotus Carlton (that was totally humiliated!), was quoted as being totally standard, yet we caught the guy turning down the boost via a couple of bleed valves after the event... Anyway, despite that, he still only managed 162mph!
Makes you wonder if these people actually know anything about cars or if it just shear laziness?
Mike
PS Mind you, at least they actually get a power reading for the cars they test, unlike the bullsh*t perpetuators elsewhere...!

How can they get from the word "Proflex" on the spec sheet to "uprated Bilstein coil-overs"
Probably the same way they got the word "mate" my-mate, his mate etc., into quotes from me, when that is a word I try not to use - I prefer friend...
See ya (mates) :-)

Have posted my message on the REVS guestbook.
Thanks for that.
I have accepted a deposit on the car from an American who wants to run it in the Pikes Peak hillclimp this year.
However should it all fall through, I will talk to anyone about the car.
