Well I've tried the MY01 and I'm sorry for "dissing" it

MY99 has gone in for some warranty work today, I've been given a bugeye as a loan car, ok its not a turbo but I can now see why so many have gone for the new shape car, its really not that bad
Infact I'd go as far as saying I like it

MD that's what I thought when I was handed the keys, the inside is pretty good, the whole car seems better built (doors close almost German like) I know that all makes a heavier car (could take the seats out I spose )
Fricking automatic though, 1st time I've ever driven one...
Only tried to change down at a fricking roundabout , not clever! Left foot braking is damn powerfull, especially when you think its the clutch pedal

Mega...no dis to you or the 01
I have been in one, but (my opinion), I think that they are too fat, too heavy (even without seats ) and not at all what the 'classic' was (is) all about...raw lightweight no nonsense performance.
When I grow up, (Im only 38), I will probably go for the 'newage' as it is a very civilised, seemingly well built and given a few mods, (not the ones on scooters), reasonably quick
Anyway, I cant afford one!

IMHP I think times have changed and as such the new age Impreza has grown up. Not to everyones liking I know and I accept that it lacks the "get up and go" of the classic shape.
Personally I prefered the old stile front end but times change and having owned a "new age" for a few months have actually come to like it.
Lets be honest the classic shape, (I will refrain from calling it the old shape) was, and still is a great car but the new style despite it`s contraversial headlamps which seems to be the main critism is IMHO a better car overall and dosn`t deserve the sour grapes bestowed upon it, primerily you might observe by owners of the classic shape. Is there perhaps a chance of "sour grapes" creeping in here?
The "new age" has a stronger bodyshell, has a far improved interior, greatly improved build quality and has finally grown up to be a comfortable very fast, affordable road car. Not to everybodies taste I appreciate and I can understand the reasoning behind some of the comments.
I for one like the car I chose to buy, If you don`t like it the answer is simple, buy a Toyota (it`s the one behind) depite what the advert says, and stop knocking the new age.

Mega glad you like the New Age Impreza.
It is interesting to see the number of people that had the classic (and it will always be one) shape that have been converted from hating/disliking to liking the new shape.
When I went to my first meet with it (and I was the only one) I got a lot of people saying "it doesn't look that bad really" that was pre-mods as well.
Of course now there a lot of things you can get and do to them, although the noise of the door closing with the glass down doesn't seem to be one of them!

davyboy and bexlee - thats the same with MY00 as well though - so its not a MY01 specific trait. I have to make a point of telling people to be gentle when shutting the doors. Same goes for the damn tinny boot lid.

LOL just tried the shutting the door with the window open
Oh dear, does sound a bit pants don't it...
Nathan thanks for the offer m8, have you seen the Kent meet Hol's arranging, 2nd August and every month after.

Hello all,
Spose I am a bit of a virgin really, owned me first Subaru for one week tonight. It is a std WRX in WR Blue with morette headlights and the carbon dash as my only pieces of oppulance, yes I did go for the headlights but I must admit the buggy eyed ones, which I still have in a box along with the original dash parts have grown on me. I have never seen the need to compare the classic and the "New Age" shapes, both different pieces of work in my book neither being better than the other. As for stuff like the doors sounding bad when they shut makes me smile, who cares. The way I look at it is which ever car you own (Scoobs only of course) you are riding around in a very special piece of engineering that in each succesive MY has developed each time to hopefully iron out the previous misgivings of the last MY. Can't wait to see the new shape I hope its as superb as all its ancestors.
oooer feeling a little faint now, ill have to go polish me dash.....again.
BTW the advice on wether I should go buckets or sports was superb, buckets rule even with me big fat rump

Well said Active (Bob) and Shaw T. At the end of the day its each to their own but don't knock the MY01/2 unless you've tried it. It has progressed and IMHO for the better compared to my MY99. Okay, it doesn't blow your socks off in a straight line like before, but it has improved in all the other crucial areas that makes it as enjoyable to drive as the classic car.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Yorkie Mate - do I recall that you had a rattle on your car from the right hand B-post or somewhere like? I've just acquired this, and it's driving me bl**dy nuts.... What's the cure?
It's only 'cos the MY01/02 is sooooo quiet that we notice these things ;0)

Despite my joking remarks with Mega on the new car, I DO ACTUALLY LIKE THEM!
My last comment on that post would indicate that.
I would buy one tomorrow if I could afford it, providing I had also got the funds for the mods.
I really couldnt live with a standard car, its the 'classic' in me
So new-age owners...get this, I do like your cars, but I also like my '99 loon-mobile, I respect Subaru for having made yet another evolutionary statement in their design and their improvement in the build quality and materials that go to produce yet another success in the Subaru line up, again they have produced a car that as a 'package' just cannot be beat!
Good enough?
ps still like mine though!

Harry_Boy,
The rattle is from the door lock striker plate with the "U" hoop that is fastened to the B pillar. For the cure click here
Hope this helps

Sorry for the digression, back on track.....
