What price an STi 5 ?
#1
I think you guys are both too low I think £16/17 k is the real price for a STI V5/6.
They are holding there price and are in demand at the moment.
I know of a friend who has recently been rung by a main agent trying to re buy his UK MY99!

Ian,
sadly there is no relationship between the UK price and the STI price - the Sti bubble burst and us Sti V owners have taken a big hit.
They are superb cars and in some cases no more expensive to insure - the price quoted is about right - £15k no more.

Interestingly, do any of you wonder how much we on here discussing things influence the price of our own cars?
If a new buyer comes on here, and we say, the bubble has burst, there is no way you will get X, a new impreza buyer simply wont spend the money.
If the prices have fallen, it is because people have not been prepared to pay. Buyers believing prices will be lower will not be prepared to pay, but chances are they are armed with this information because we say so.

I've been offered a '98 S-reg STi 5, 28k miles, full history, clean car, from a Subaru dealer whom, I assume, needs to punt it quickly before IM find out. What price would be reasonable to pay for it?
Thanks,
JB

Incidentally a 98 S reg sti5 thru someone like sti-imports was being sold for about £20-21k at that time
I know cos I ordered mine in May - by which time the e/r had fallen to about 195 yen to the pound (it had got as high as 245 yen at one point I think) so I paid £24k for an August registered sti 5 1999 T plate - ie almost a year newer
The only people whon have taken the really big hits on these cars are the ones that bought from the Likes of David Hendry (and financed it on a balloon payment deal - oh dear....) paying £31-33k for the car and another £6k in finance.
Even some of the other well known companies were charging more than £28k in this period
So I believe that anything above £15k is downright robbery - if you were'nt stupid and shopped around in the first instance
I reckon mine would be worth about £17k - if I had left it in standard trim - a rather healthy 30% depreciation over 2 years
Then again I have probabaly spent another £10k + on modifications - which are pretty much worthless (as most people know)
Buy a Nissan Sunny GTir - add a bleed valve, improve the suspension and hey presto you have a car that handles as well as the Scoob, is as quick and costs about £10k less than the current dealer prices!! (totally unbiased opinion - as I dont own one)

Ian,
you'll be the first to get my call when I decide to sell mine.
I am aware of a number of people who have had cars on the market for some time and have failed to meet target prices - certainly prices of UK cars have been much stronger.
So, you can happily have my 30,000 mile STi for £15,000.

I agree with Ian, they must be worth more than that.
It they aren't its a dire state of affairs the STis are going to appeal to more of the yob type fast car buyer, sh1te

Thats a bit snobby isn't it scott? and what do base that assumption on? I dont see many 'yobs' driving UK cars of that sort of value - and the insurance would be cheaper for them too!

Indeed but how much was he offering? Not enough it would seen or was it just a ploy to sell an 01?

No I don't think so whats snobby about that?
The point I was making is that all of a sudden you have a 300 horse car within the reach of some of the types of driver that will:
a Give the car a worse image by driving Nova stylee.
b Increase insurance premiums.
c Get more attention from the law than we already have.
Its a simple case of the cars lifecycle and peoples demographic buying patterns.

'Peoples demographic buying patterns'
Erm....?
I do agree though that the Scoob is well within reach of the undesirable element...
After all .... Adam M has one - although I do recall it was only one of those, slower 22B types

What is going on here,
for a start steve, actually I had two, but I wasn't sure you could count that high
and why cant the 22b be faster than an sti 5?
it has more torque, a bigger turbo, larger capacity, water spray, and shorter gearing.
but to be fair, the differences are so tiny, I dont believe anyone can truly separate the performance of the standard cars.
Scott, completely agree re demographic of buyers/drivers.

Look scott, if you want a war, I will kick you ****.
You have to cope with paying less for your car, then spending a load of money on it, which you have, only to find out it is worth nothing.
It is a great version to choose, no doubt, but only informed people know that.
The 22B will always have rarity in that it is a body shape that no other impreza has (except the wrc but I'll allow that).
so :P,
girls car it may be, but ask the board which they would rather have.
Ps. you are lame.
PPs. if we give you more notice, how about a barbeque sometime next week?
will call over weekend or something!

Please correct me if I am wrong but in the Revs Cossies vs Scoobs, Craigs Car with exhaust and Induction was quicker than Stef Fishers car with the same mods.
