My MY00 PPP with quickshift excibits the following behaviour:
1. While cruising with 5th sometimes backing off the accelerator disengages the gear into neutral
2. Reverse tough to engage and does not "button" clearly sometimes semi-engages with usual synchro crunching noise if re-engaged
3. Once R is engaged sometimes gearlever is frozen in Neutral difficult to engage any gear initially after that though ok.

Phew! Thx for taking the time to read all this! Anybody had similar probs? i have 20000 km (11200 m) on the clock clutch never changed.

I agree, sounds like the quickshift needs adjusting. Mine was all sloppy before it went in for last service. Didnt recognise it when I got the car back.

There was a thread not to long ago about this. Apparently from what most said, was that the quickshift damages the gearbox due to the quickshift making the gearchanges to quick for something internal to keep up, causing stress. I Can't remember exactly. I'll try a search and if I find it I'll put a link.

Stelios,

There is also a nut which comes loose on the gearbox that could simply need tightening up.

Nothing to do with the quickshift, my car did it and i didnt have one fitted !

There is a bulletin with Subaru dealers, the nut comes loose inside the gearbox, and needs replacing ! It was warranty job on my car !

Yes thx guys its a locking nut prob of some sort! It becomes loose in the gbox and F***ks up the 5th-R synchro and coupling. Subaru dealer said only onr word: (Production) glad to know its a well documented problem but in greece the warranty is only one year and its expired 4 months ago! The Subaru guys told me theyll do their best to attribute it to factory flaw and charge me labour only . Thx for all your help

To get into reverse properly and without making any crunching noises, I find it best to take your foot off the clutch in neutral, then change to 3rd and then reverse. I find all Subies to make terrible noises when going into reverse, and this way it'll shift in pretty smooth.

OK scooby people the deal is:
1. Clanging noises sounds like exhaust is getting loose
2. 5th gead dissengaging reverse difficult to engage
3. Subaru garage gbox overhaul baulk ring, locking nut, synchromesh oil guide GBP 450 a well known production prob all locking nuts in the box now welded in place.
If this happens to u *dont drive the car* else if the nut or pieces start wandering around the gearbox all sort of wonderfull things will happen to the gears

Crunchy reverse gear can often be sorted by double clutching...
