I have a problem with my Sti I wondered if it was a design fault? Everytime I put my foot down the tarmac behind the car seems to get rucked up and people look at the car and point and smile? It also has a desire to take off. Finally I have noticed that I sometimes reach my destination a few minutes before I have left home.

Has anyone else had any similar problems?

Haven't noticed the second one, but I have noticed that when a map shows the distance to destination to be say 10 miles of quiet B roads the odometer usually shows about 30 by the time I get there. Can understand this at all.

p.s. Go easy on the tarmac. Someone has to go around at night and iron out the wrinkles

This is a serious design flaw, which from internal secret documents that I have seen, suggest that someone is trying to inject a sense of 'fun' into a jap saloon. Obviously this is being looked into at the highest levels, the UK market has done's it's research on this, and has actually managed to iron out some off the design flaw, hence the power difference between the UK and Jap spec cars.

My car, being slightly modified and with a drainpipe for an exhaust has a more serious flaw in that people duck when they hear it coming as they think it's a Vulcan bomber on a low level bombing run

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. But don't worry. The time dilation effects are extremely useful. For amusement you can watch multiple copies of yourself in your rear view mirror, and it's very convenient not having to shave so often. I have been trying to work out how to get to the bookies in more than -10 minutes, because there's some serious money to be made. I'll let you know how I got on before I do.

I have the same problem in my STi.
I find that the only other fault is trying to stop afterwards
wouldn't swap her for the world though

Unhappy

my only problem is not enough good cars out there to have a go at
saw a 355 today, and i SERIOUSLY considered 'having a go'
would i have got my *** whupped?me in my 15k sti 5 against 355 costing god knows how much?
this is great! the thought of having a go in a 15k car. my other problem is the worry not having a uk warranty. after all, we all know how great all uk dealers are eh?
im worried that my car is gonna get great treatment from the independant specialists i'm using to look after it. what WILL i do with the money i save, and better performance mods.
woe is me .......

I too have noticed a similar problem with my STi Type R that the more pressure placed on the accelerator pedal seems to make all of the cars heading in the same direction as you start going faster backwards!

This is rather anoying as you have to swerve onto the opposite side of the road to avoid the nutters!!

Have you also noticed that the bungie elastic on an R1 is alot tighter than on an R6 for example.
When pulling off I'm sure that bike riders throw a grappling hook on to my back bumper that is attatched to a bungie strap, they seem to drop back at first but as I catch a rapidly reversing car the bungie tightens and catapults the biker past!!

these are my findings anyway

spudgun,

I reckon you would just have the edge on a 355 but, by the time you did, Mr Plod would be keen to rip your licences into tiny shreds At Knockhill last year, I saw Mike Wood in the Prodrive P1 on the track with F3 driver and Knockhill instructor Andrew Kirkcaldy (IIRC) in a 355 and Mike just edged him out of the hairpin and up the straight. That said, they're both outstanding drivers and there was very little in it. And it wasn't Andrew's car

I have noticed that this happens on lots of Deloreans. Does anyone know if there is some kind of speed limiter on them?

There is an old Japanese proverb which says:-

Everwhere is local in an STI

I also have problems with my Sti.
A "i'm just popping to the shop" turn's into a 30 mile A and B road blast. Is this normal or do I need to see someone to sort the problem out?
Oh dear the wife needs something from the shop must be going.

I used to frequently 'play' with a 355 on my way home going on to the M61. From the lights I was ahead until I hit about 80/90mph when he drew level and pulled away. So I used to get to the 70-limit then ease off being 'good' - and pissing him off Funniest thing was he is/was so miserable. Never smiled, never waved, never acknowledged, but always tried and always lost until I 'eased off'

For some reason I don't seem to fair as well against him in the 330d
