Vauxhall VX220 = Tommy 2 Thumbs!!!
#1
I had a go of a Vauxhall VX220 yesterday, and I came back with a huge grin from ear to ear! I usually wouldn't even consider a Vauxhall but this is a little bit special!
I tried an Elise the other week, but found it to be too noisey and raw and not fast enough, the little VX isn't exactly comfortable but you could live with it easily as a 7 day a week car. The engine is smooth and feels as fast a uk Scoob but without the Turbo clout you get.
So my quest to find the new car continues! I wonder whether I should go for this?

But you should see how many ppl look at ya! The best pair of shoes Ive ever worn!
It is a Vauxhall I know, but it isnt a propper one so this could be excusable!

Don't know how many people notice this but the VX220's got ABS and the Elise hasn't... ever since I drove into a dead end once I wouldn't be without it.
You could always get one with the Opel badges (and Speedster sounds a lot cooler than VX220 too)

VX220's definitely quicker than an Elise, neither as fast as my Scooby
Elise in the wet didn't see which way I went (all four wheels spining coming off a roundabout tho! ), even in a straight line couldn't cut it.
With a VX220 I could make some ground at higher speeds, didn't get to try the twisty bits - supprised me 'cos I thought I'd stomp all over it like the Elise

there was one at castle coombe on wednesday being driven by a couple of guys from "Sportscar" magazine (new mag, couple of issues old - i'll be buying it to see if they've got the integra in the background ). Anyway - they seemed to be doing ok, apart from a couple of big spins (but i guess it wasnt their car ) and rated the car pretty highly.
Seems to be a lot better than its image would suggest. The biggest concern I think would be residuals. Why oh why didnt they sell it as an opel speedster ?

Apparently they are only allowing 1000 cars in the UK per year for 3 years, so residuals are suposed to be high!
That will remain to be seen when I get my finance quote back on monday from Apple Vehicle Contracts!
But knowing them they should come up with the goods.
I drove a Lotus Elise a few weeks ago and I didnt like it at all, I went for the test drive in the VX yesterday with the thought that it would be the same, but I was so surprised I really want one!

NOT self build - I struggle to change a wheel
Probably just a 1.7 supersport, or possibly a mid-tuned K-series. Although if business continues as it is, perhaps a Superlight

I read somewhere some months ago that Vauxhall were developing a 190bhp turbo'd VX220 - quick enough they reckon to take on some of the super cars - ferrari's etc. The 147bhp will hit 60 in 5.8ish - they were estimatingthe 190bhp turbo'd model would do it in a shade over 4 secs - now that's one to have - I'd suggest waiting or finding out if the turbo'd VX is just a vauxhall idea or if it'll be a reality!!

Gary,
IMHO, if you've got the funds, go for the Superlight- for not much more than a spec'd up K-series Roadsport you'll get all the 'trick' bits- 6-speed box, lsd, sports suspension, up-rated brakes, lots of lovely carbon fibre
Go on, you know you want to.......
(let me know how you get on)

Ive been trying to get a test drive since last september, from when I was on the official list. Terrible service for a prospective customer. Even wrote to vauxhall themselves...but of course didnt get a reply. Low priority now...
