PRESS RELEASE - David Higgins returns to Barretts Motorsport
#1
David Higgins will drive Barretts new Subaru Gp N Impreza on the Rallye Charlemagne in France next weekend (July 6/7).
The team took delivery of the car only last week and so there has not been time for any tarmac testing. The car was originally built by Prodrive to the latest Gp N regulations for Barretts to contest the 2001 British Rally Championship.
David has driven a similar car, on gravel only, whilst doing development work for Prodrive. He believes that the car is a major step forward from the version 3 car that he drove to a convincing BRC Gp N Championship win in 1999 wining the Rally of Wales outright in the process. The team intends to treat this event as a “test session” rather than go all out to win it.
David said that he is really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a rally car again with the Barretts team. “ It has been really frustrating knowing that we had a new car waiting to be used but because of the foot & mouth epidemic not being able to prove what the car, the team and I are capable of. I am quite sure we would have raised some eyebrows had the 2001 BRC gone ahead”
Paul Barrett, Managing Director of the Canterbury based team said “ I am delighted to be working with David again, he really does know how to get the best from the Impreza and us as a team. This will be fifth year in succession that we have worked with David”.
David will be co-driven by the experienced Craig Thorley.
The team intends to do some more events this year with David and are looking for some gravel mileage prior to contesting the Network Q in November.
