I saw these on Saturday on the M6. Quite scary really as I think they are the ones that measure your average speed. One central camera with three small "lights/cameras?" each side, looking as though it is about to machine gun you.

I didn't have my detector on, but I doubt it would work. The Mail recently said that it reads all the plates and then again however far down the road they are, and then checks your average speed. Once we know where they are we can hide behind some rather large trucks!

These cameras are sited between J18 and J19, both north and southbound.

They are the same as the cameras on the Nottingham ring road and do indeed measure your average speed between each camera.

Angry

If these (SPECS?) cameras are on 70mph stretches of motorway then this is disgusting. Write to your MP (or even Blunkey) to complain - how can a motorway be an accident blackspot??

If it is SPECS, then i think that the three "small lights/cameras" are infra-red illuminators so that the cameras work at night. If it is true, it stinks BIG TIME!

Hmm worrying stuff. Not seen anything about these, also heard a rumour that there was a specs system to be installed in gloucestershire. Does anyone know where or where I can find info on locations of specs cameras (can I write to my MP/council for this information).

Thanks

Jon

Unhappy

From what i hear (elsewhere), the M6 SPECS are indeed true - but at least is in a roadworks (temp speed limit) section.

Take care everyone!

I passed these last week, and the radar detectors dont pick them up. I hope I do not get done, running out of points and all that, Oh well, trials and tribulations of being a ASM.

Yep they are definately there, 4 in each direction in the 50mph limited roadworks.

Thay are causing great traffic problems in my opinion. Nobody knows what they are and jump on the brakes as they go past them, suddenly slowing down to 35-40mph and then put their foot down again this is much more dangerous than doing 60 through the 50 zone IMHO - more publicised information would create much better traffic flow.

Do they measure between all 4 cameras or just between no.1 and no.2 and then again between no.3 and no.4?

What f*!ks me off is that I seem to be the only person who obeys the limits through the roadworks bits. Lower down the M6 (in Birmingham) there's a huge roadworks project going on but as usual they move the cones to the side of the road at weekends but leave the 50 signs up.

I crawl through at 50 with effing great big trucks coming up behind me and hassling me to go faster. Everyone else just seems to whizz by at 70-80+

Makes me feel like a right lemon...

I stick to the limit at roadworks, like you say I feel a bit of a lemon. Picked it up from US driving where fines are doubled in constuction zones.
