flames not the ones i wanted
#1
i have got to be plonker of the month i love the idea of flames coming out of my exhaust (which i do get) but flames coming from under the bonnet oh no
after driving app. couple of miles started smelling burning thought it was the car in front but when i pulled up at a set of traffick lights i can actually see smoke coming from under the bonnet
panic mode now i know you are not supposed to lift the bonnet if you see burning from under the bonnet but well i had to couldn`t beleive it but flames coming from the turbo area guess what i had changed a side light bulb and used the handbook to read how to get it out and for some stupid reason left it in there when closing the bonnet and that was what was on fire
pulled the handbook out like i was some kind of nutter much to the amusement of a mobile kebab shop and its queue and panic over
i cant even change a light bulb without causing major problems

LOL
At least you can laugh about yourself, thanks for sharing
Bit like me who still has his barely legal trackday tyres on because I've lost the bloody locknut key I think I left it on the wheel nut and its flown off somewhere - typical. Oh well new one ordered

frightening things car fires.
i made the mistake once of trying to torch a wasp with WD40 and a lighter that was hovering between the dashboard and the widscreen.
the flames shot down one of the dasboard air vents and set the soundproofing alight ( the car was a triumph acclaim).
unfortunately i was in a petrol station at the time, so i legged into the shop to look for the fire extingushers. in the state of mass panic i completely missed the extingushers that were by the front door. it was all a bit embarrassing so i just bought 2 pints of milk and squirted them down the air vent and this seemed to do the job.
there was still loads of acrid smoke and steam piling out of the dash so all i could do was get the car off the forecourt, luckily the fire seemed to go out.
i was delivering pizzas part time, at the time and had to spend the next month driving round with all the windows open cos the smell of burnt lagging and rotten milk was so bad.
the moral of the story is - if you've got a wasp in the car open the window.

Sisters mini caught light...
She had had a reoccurring problem with the lights.. no dipped beam.. it would happen occassionally but only when you first turned the lights on.. if you flicked up and down main beam dipped then worked.. no fault could be found.. a new switch gear was fitted and still the same.. then dipped stopped completely one evening about 1/2miles from home so she turned around a drove back along the country lane on main beam and luckly she didn't meet anyone... stopped in the driveway and Dad looked under the bonnet whilst she flicked lights on and off and up and down main / dipped etc...
Then all of a sudden everything came on.. the lights, the horn, the windscreen wipers, the fog lights the hazards etc...
The wiring had melted and all the wires stuck together, smoke bellowed from the bulk head.. Dad didn't know whether to go for the fire extinghisher or the battery terminals in the boot first..
Thankfully it went out easily!
One wiring loom and a weekends work later we got the car back together and the lights work okay now

You see the benefits of having an import.
My import has a Japanese manual, I would never have been tempted to try and read it, so I'd never have left it under the bonnet.
Imports really are the best bet :-)
