Magnum-yeah, you didn’t get ripped off mate, welcome to scoobynet .
Ru$$rip-if you to listen to everything on here you wouldn't own a subaru at all, thing is you only here the worst cases.
Its like you read a post saying "I blew my engine with only 30k on the clock" doesn’t tell you that its running far to much boost and lives on the red line every time it is driven, thrashed from cold and poorly serviced.
Don't worry and enjoy your car, most car jackings are for things like new merc's and bmw's
yes there is reason to be vigilant but if you take care where you drive and leave your car there isn’t too much to worry about.

OK dont get me wrong, whilst this forum is an eternal fountain of knowledge and good advice I dread each time I log on. Reason is quite simple , I have just bought a new MY02 WRX and IMHO is the best car I have ever owned (and its not even been run in yet!). The missus and I feel like royality when we go out in it!
Every time I log onto the forum I come away worried sick about car-jackings, poor peformance, high depreciation and how good the newer models are gonna look. I log off wishing I never bloody bought a Subaru! Its all doom and gloom which I am sure I am sure I am not alone leaves many subaru owners utterly PARANOID!!
Its got to a point now where I am telling the wife to beware of car jackers, people following her etc etc and she is now ruddy PARANOID! This is spoiling the enjoyment of our Subaru and statistically speaking the chances of it actually happening are probably the same as driving any other decent car. After all common sense prevails at the end of the day.
What can be done to change this???

I know what u mean m8, and I only drive a MY00 in Ireland... here too there is paranoia over the "subaru gang" a team of armed robbers who luv to use scoobies during their crime spries!!!! anyhoo just remeber its only a car, as uve stated common sense will prevent car jacking, its something that can happen in any car, merc, beemer, scoob etc be aware of ur surroundings, lock ur doors when driving, all things u've probably done in all ur years of motoring anyway... as for opinion on the face lift model, all u can do is wait n see, IMHO i like the bug eye, i also like the legacy. At the end of the day everyone loses a few bob on a car (except maybe POC ) just get back to enjoying the car,
Cheers

Do what I do - carry on regardless! (Taking a few sensible precautions of course )
I see all the doom and gloom etc. but when I drive my old MY96, the grin returns and it makes the depreciation and potential car jackings more bearable. After all, I think car jackings are probably less common than winning the lottery.
All apart from the speed cameras...

I sympathise with your point.
When I was reading this forum for about 6-8 weeks before I got mine, I had all the same thoughts as you. Almost decided not to get one. But...
You have to enjoy life and take the rough with the smooth. Houses get burgled - are you gonna sell your house? People get mugged - are you never going to leave the house (which you sold) again? Cars get stolen / jacked - are you going to take up cycling. Bad example as I worry about my £4.5K MTB being nicked but thats another story
Point is you will hear about Scooby doom and gloom stories here as it is a Subaru community. Bet all the other car BBS's have similar, and the same gooes for everything else in life.
Take heart, always be aware and take reasonable precaution whatever and wherever, enjoy your life and your toys. Don't waste you time being paranoid its a waste of your life. If a life blip ever occurs, deal with it then and dont worry about it now.
Pep talk over! Keep your pecker up and enjoy life!

Dont take too much notice of negative posts on this BBS. It goes with the territory, when things go right.... no one posts.
Rest assured you have bought a fabulous reliable performance car for rep-mobile money ...enjoy...!

Ive just bought a wrx
pick it up this weekend and im a bit worried about the whole carjacking thing
i used to work as a nightclub doorman and im a huge guy. I think though i would just give up the car as its only metal and i could just get another one!
I will be very careful where i go in it as the dealer who sold me my car told me the guy who bought the previous car he sold was dragged out of his car at gunpoint at a traffic light in manchester
scary eh?

Point taken but just watch out for potential car jackings, high depreciation of your vehicle, bad Optimax fuel that ***** yer car and how brilliant the newer models are - have a nice day !

would you sell your house because of all the burglaries ?
would you sell your mobile phone because of all the muggings ?
same difference methinks ?

I'm with Astrboy ( )
Come join the Muppets - we're harmless! (well sort of.....)
And anyway - if someone nicks the car? So what - it's just a car - it's insured!! I love my WRX dearly - but it's still just a car - I like people more!

As some one said b4 with any forum they tend to be about bitchin or negative posts, but that is what genearlly get the good stuff gong further on in the thread.
One nice thing about this forum is there is very little flaming going on, I use a forum for the game Counter-Strike and the main board is full of bitching and moaning, but check the other boards in the same community and there are loads of threads to bring a smile to your face just like the muppet show & Member's Gallery on Scooby net
