Hiya, I'm new to scoobys and have just bought a '95 WRX wagon, the car is standard apart from 16" gold wheels. Firstly could anybody tell me the best place in the Merseyside area for parts and servicing, also the best inital mods to make to a standard car. Thanks in advance. Rob.

Brakes as THE first thing that you want to get sorted as the poxy 2pots are just not up to the job.
All that you need to remember is that your car takes super unleaded or optimax (just to make sure you know so that if your engine goes bang you cant blame us ) but there are a few makes of exhaust out there for our cars, just follow some of the banners or check places like www.Scoobymania.co.uk, www.scoobysport.co.uk www.scoobyworld.co.uk out

Do NOT run your car on unleaded fuel (unless you want to pay 3-4k on an engine rebuild )
You should also run octane booster to push the octane level up to 100ron as thats what the jap imports are tuned for, much less than this and you get detonation, definately not good for your engine or pistons

Tony

PS, try www.scoobymania.co.uk for octane booster, the NF is the stuff you want

You could try Pro-Sport in stockport or Dp motorsport in warrington, otherwise you can do lots of mail order stuff from places like www.ScoobyMania.co.uk or www.ScoobySport.co.uk or even www.ScoobyWorld.co.uk

Rob,
have to add this little bit though...
When you do start tuning your car, you may be in for a shock at the prices that your insurance co want off you
You do have to declare all mods to your car (its the law) and depending on who your insured with, they will either be friendly to you modifying your car (ie will let you do it but charge you for it) or wont let you do anything, and i mean anything to your car

Robstar - you MUST get rid of those nasty gold wheels mate, although there are those that think you get an extra 10bhp from them
welcome to scoobynet as well, you won't find a better bbs

Ryan,
yes you can run a uk car on unleaded but for the extra cost of super you get better performance and the same money's worth out of a tank of fuel, ie better performance and better economy so ill let you work it out

Tony
(MY00 PPP'd turbo always run on super u/l and now optimax )

Just like to point out that on an import wagon, the NEED to run Super or Optimax isn't as great. They are substantially less powerful than the saloon counterparts, an MY95 would put out about 240bhp in Jap terms if i remember correctly, which on UK unleaded is about the same output as a UK car.

I'd run it on super or Optimax if you can, but it's not the end of the world if you can only get NUL, in my experience.

I'm new too. Picking up a UK 2000 Turbo Saturday, with some description of rear silencer and Prodrive P7 Gold wheels. (was straight through, but it's got a Cat now cos I'm a good boy!)

Sounds EVIL even with the cat. Don't know what the backbox is, but it looks lovely, 4.5" or 5" from looking at it.

Just upgrading after having 2 sports (first one slid too far sideways in the wet and made love to a tree. Nothing to do with my driving, obviously!).

Have to say to the chap who posted earlier in this thread at being not as fortunate to have a Turbo. I loved both my Sports dearly. They're wonderful cars, but sadly well overshadowed by the Turbo.

Chap I spoke to at Scooysport.co.uk (before going for the Turbo) advises a scoobysport exhaust with de-cat will unleash LOTS of hidden power on the normally aspirated model. And sound awesome too. Never tried it myself, but nearly did...

I want it to be Saturday NOW!

Welcome aboard Robstar.
I recommend you read the SIDC FAQ section and also become a member of the club. See here. There's loads of info on there.
Just remember once you start modding the car it's never ending, and great fun. Enjoy your car.

Welcome to the madhouse

First things to look at will be to improve the breathing and gas extracting.

So prepare to look for air filters/induction kits and exhaust products.
From there brake/suspension parts.
