Maidenhead tonight - held a Saxo off on the straight run to the M4, easy peasy - then, at the lights on the roundabout we had a little wheel to wheel to get to the M4 slipway - he was bl00dy fast and just beat me to the slipway I had a full topbox, wife, teenager and big Alsation in the car - was I expecting too much of the old girl?? She held it off admirably but on the twisty bit she lost it
Tell me I would have kicked *** had I had an empty car with only a 19 stone driver - pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese tell me I would

Sorry Pete, got u confused with another user.
Can't help u sorry m8.
Certain saxo's can take us sport owners by surprise sometimes if we don't have our wits about us!
Hang on i've sussed it....He couldn't have had a boot full of subs! Saxo's r just as quick as STI7's out of the factory but the trouble is owners fill the boot with heavy oversized domino looking speakers! = -180+BHP Oh yeah the LED washer jets probably gave him an extra 10BHP
Sorry, i'm off now!

Dont feel bad, I got beaten by a prost mugen scooter last night. Normally no probs but the little f*cker was all over the road and I couldnt get through without risking knocking the little sod off. Laugh, i did (in the end)

I'd say you need to fit gold wheels and a pink STI badge up front - you need a more intimidating road presence. Saxo driver obviously spotted you were driving a UK car and were protecting your residuals - which gave him all the hope he needed to take you on expecting to win - expectation breeds results.

Stu,
What, get through or knock him off??
Pete,
It's certainly the lack of Gold Wheels which is slowing your car down.....

Sorry m8 i used to own a 106gti which is pretty much the same as the saxo and new for a fact it would beat sports, would scare and often beat unmodded turbos.
It was running 170bhp(no speakers, etc, etc its not my scene) plus nitrous injection for when the going gets tough.:
0-60 in approx 6.5 and went off the clock at 140, never stopped all the way up their, untill it went bang

Sorry guys I've tried but I can't resists......here comes my 2p worth:
A standard VTS will wipe the floor with a sport, I wouldn't have wasted my time with one unless it was wet where he'd have half a chance.
Again a standard VTS is not much slower than a standard scooby. I'd actually forgotten how slow (relatively speaking) a standard scooby is when I reeled one in no probs this morning (all in good fun silver N-reg person). I was often amazed at the amount of turbo drivers that would give me a few second head start and then try to reel me back in. Their closure rate was just too slow and I know they left having learnt not to be stupid enought to give a head start again!
The problem with Saxo's is they can be quite easily modified to about 150-60bhp through convensional means (exhaust, filters, etc). Such a car may frighten a standard scooby (or ladden ones)but will be no contest for even mildly modified ones. Then there is the supercharger kit (3k by the way!!!) and this makes the VTS considerably faster than even relatively well modified scoobs. I'm hoping to mod my scooby to about 270bhp and have arranged a Crail run with a supercharged VTS soon after, I'll report back when I have the results. To be honest, if it's a dry day I expect to loose!!

Saxo boy i was in the stages of being the test car for the supercharge kit on my 106gti with peugeot eccosse. Tested a scooby for my mum and dad, they did not like it, i did. So no more mods for 106, roll on scoob. That was 4 year ago(how time has flown).
Used to love flicking the switch of the nitrous and scaring M3's to death. The 6.5 second to 60 was without nitrous as i did not like to engage until 3rd.
I am still wary of some of these little pocket rockets cause i know what they can do and i know the scoob is not invincible.

these boys do know what they are doing you know. they read up more on mods that most of us ever do. most scoob driver being in the closer to 30 age range pick up max power etc etc and get carried away looking at the ladieeees and forget the bit in the middle that says " How to mod you car so it kicks the cr@p out of a scoob" it is their holy grail to beat or own one. Fast car resently had a spread on ladieees but inbtween i noticed ( somehow) that there was a section on r5's most running 180plus bhp some well over 200. the car fits in your pocket and they run 220bhp!!!
my moto get your car modded (300 plus for a convincing show) if you think you want to race the little buggas or stay well clear they are too light and too quick.

You have to start modding Pete.
I realised it when a Golf TDi wouldn't disappear out of my rear view mirror. Still can't believe it was standard, but still...
Got a Unichip and Dawes, now waiting to see him again. Totally different ballgame...

Its all about power to weight ration duys and gals!
Saxo's weigh err... nothing (less than a ton) and a scoob weighs 1200Kg (+?)
Plus a tin box full of people on top of a lardy scooby?
No Chance against the weight of a skinny rat in a tin can!
Sorry PLewis - you were doomed from the moment you let your family into your car!
Mak.
Simple answer though - make the wife and kids get a taxi next time!

You have to accept at some point that your car isnt the fastest on the road. No matter what you drive there will be someone driving something modded to oblivion that will out acclerate/handle it.
Bloody Q cars get on my wick..
ScoobyJawa, you say you can stay with a c4s upto a ton?
Is your car modded much?

I can't help thinking that you weren't giving it your best. I bet that in the back of your mind you were thinking about poor old poochy being slammed against the tailgate and the kids thrown around their kiddy chairs.
Am I right?

That said the thing that has impressed me most about the scooby is how quick it pulls with lots of people in the car. As you know I've been in middle of nowhere on hols so one night I went 6 adults up and floored it heading up a very steep hill back to the campsite. Everyone commented on how quickly the car was accelerating despite the monster hill and huge weight burden. If I'd done that in the VTS it would have stuggled to get up the hill much less accelerate well up it!

Ok to set the cat amongst the pidgeons, how many of you if you came across a saab 9000 aero or 9-5 aero would you expect to beat it in your standard or midly modded scoob?
