Subaru Impreza & IT People?
#1
Nic Senior (Talking about sales of the bugeye) -
"There was a huge correlation between the downturn in the IT world. The original success of WRX was closely linked to people in the IT world, who were drawn to the car..."
So why were people in the IT world drawn to the car?
Discuss?

Because <flamesuit> we recognise performance-per-pound ahead of 'conventional' style </flamesuit>?
Can anyone honestly say they loved the look of their Scoob *before* they drove it?
Not that all IT folk are the same, of course...

Probably because IT types have no sense of individuality and a few saw the subaru win a rally and went yep its cheaper than an evo I will get me one of them and so all their friends followd suit. This is probably why the car was associated with geeks and is now being associated with boy racers who also follow each other like sheep.

Katana, Athlons are for children playing games, Intel is for real computing.
Its because we IT types look for function and power. Pretty looks are last on the list. Some have said its because we have no sense of style - but they usually drive hairdresser's cars like TT's.

I'm in IT and do find a lot of IT consultants are into Scoobs.
Must be honest most crave for a BMW or Porsche.
I chose STi V5 because of cost, grip, pace, lightness and speed.
ALso I hardly ever come accross other late Stis so feels more original than a M3.
Definate correlation. Things are tough at the moment accross the board. One other factor, apart from the odd heavily modded new WRX, I still think they are ugly and ungainly. Certainly not the update to the classic that I was expecting.

skunk,
agreed! like you, i always fancied a scooby and new i'd have one at some point. the first i test drove still graces my driveway!
and i love 911s too. in fact the new carerra gt for next year is excellent, but i could have bought a late 911 for the money i put into enjoying my scoob - and you know what??? no regrets!

Another IT'er here.
Admired scoobs for a while , before I had the dosh to afford one.
Even then its a Sport. Most IT'ers I know cant afford them.
As one guy said (sorry forgot who) price/performance, hard to beat.
But its certainly not just IT'ers who go for them.
From what ive seen the higher paid IT'ers go for flash stuff, BMW, Merc, Lotus & the good old VW clone type.

IT too and at work now as it happens. For me it depends on my circumstances, when I worked closer to home it was a Scoob, now I have a long commute it's a 3 series diesel.
I'd rather have a 911 though C4S, GT2, GT3 or Turbo will do just fine. Not being snobbish in any way I just would!

I'm with importsti, most of the guys I've known in IT all wanted beemers or porkers and up until recent years, none of them really knew about Scoobies.
Since both of them are old mans cars, I always wanted a Scoob.
Oh and because I'm hugely overpaid
