Toyo Proxys ... your views please

Becks.
The dealerhsip I got my Golf from put these on for me.
In the dry (bear in mind this is from a Front Wheel drive car) they are pretty sticky. On a hot day, they have a very tacky rubber Oooooh Er!
In the wet, they are not bad. Seem to disperse the standing water very well. I am pleased with them, being a previous Pirelli and S02 fan

Ran them in 16" form on my Wagon, not very good, compared to SO2's dry grip circa 70 % and wet grip circa 60 %, very dissapointed. They squirmed around alot as well.
A tyre that I did find compared very well is the Falken FK451 (I think thats the code) which I put at 95% and 90 %. Very good value from Micheldever tyes.

Fitted them on my v5 typer as soon as the (crap) standard RE01's wore out - after 13,000 miles. Average 20,000 miles of fairly hard use. Fantastic grip/turn-in wet or dry until about 75% worn, then go off quickly. Can't comment on suitability for track use but recommend highly for normal road use (if that's possible in a Scoob!)

Hiya Rebecca
Id stick with the Bridgestones, i have never had toyos on the car but there aint no way im putting anything but Bridgestones on now
once i had the so-2's fitted the difference was phenominal especially in the wet (and living up north its very wet!)
So-2's are not meant to be the best on the track thou as a few people have said, saying that have you thought about yokohama 520's or the likes?
What ever you do, dont put on avon zz1's they are no good

Hillclimb and sprinted on Toyo Proxys last season. (215/40/17) and thought they were fab. Very sticky when hot but did find they could "go off" quickly when they got too hot.
Sprinting a Pug 205 on Toyo T1's. The grip from them is phemoninal even away from a standing start.
Cheers

The Falken's FK451's are very good (in 17" anyway) - but also very loud on the motorways until half worn.
They're also soft - lunched mine with 14'000kms of road use...& 700km's of the Nurburgring
I'm actually gonna' try the Toyos this time around.

I have had my Toyos for about 8000 miles, and they have been excellent, especially in the wet. Mine are 225x45x17 (on an Audi S3)
Although it's close, I rate them higher than my Bridgestone S-02s, particularily in cold weather.
Jury is still out on wear rate. So long as they last at least 15,000 miles, I shall be satisfied.
The 5 year insurance is a bonus.

I went from SO2's to Toyo's..
when I get the chance, I'm going back to SO2's (or even SO3 PPs if they're available)
Sure, the Toyo's may be "progressive" but the SO2's just STICK..
OK, I'm told when SO2's let go.. they really let go.. but if you're not stupid enough to get them to that point, then they're sound as a pound.

Rebecca,
I have T1-S's on my car ( 225/40/18 and 255/35/18),and they seem to be doing well. They are better than the standard OE Bridgestones, but maybe ultimately not as good as SO-2's or SO-3's. However, at that price they are great!
I don't think you'd be disappointed, and they look great too!

I went from GoodYear Eagle F1 in 215/40x17 to Proxes in 215/35x18...can't say anything about the S02's...but...wetgrip is good (f1's had en edge here), and drygrip is very good in the Proxes, and they let you know what's happening.
I love 'em.

Went from knackered bridgestones to Proxes T1-s not looked back since. They look great plus they do stick somewhat. I went for them as a few friends how drive a bit more enthusiasticly than me reckoned that they were rather good.

I had Toyo Proxys on my car but didn't like them. They look fantastic but they're not as good as SO2s. However, they are quite good in the rain, suits the British weather I suppose . But for £60+VAT for 17"......You can't grumble. It's better than a swift kick to the *****....if you know what I mean(doubt it though )

I had the OEM Bridgestones then SO2's then Toyo's. Have to say the SO2 tyre was very very good indeed yeah when they let go they let go but you where going a good deal faster. The Toyo's dont have the same level of grip but then they are still pretty good. I think in an ideal world I would go back to the SO2 just they do wear faster and cost more. For the commute at the moment the Toyo's do fine when the scoob goes back to being a "toy" then the SO2's will be back.

Afraid the local dealer is in the Suffolk area ... and yes it is for the above sized tyres ... thought it seemed a good price to me too .... the tyre place is appointed dealer for them .. say they've sold 100 of them in the past 3 months ...

I'm a huge fan of Toyos
The great thing about the Toyos is that they are incredibly driveable.
So much so, that they are the tyre I've chosen to do the World Record for driving sideways on.
I loved the bridgestone S02 out of pure "OH MY GOD WHERE IS ALL THAT GRIP COMING FROM" point of view. But now they're gone (and IMHO the S03 is a light year behind in terms of grip and driveability) I will be using them at every change (unles something changes).
Cheers

I went from SO2's to Proxies as they were £20 cheaper.
The Toyos are not as good, more understeer. They are OK types but not as good as SO2 so really you get what you pay for.
I think the proxies from Powerstation were about £92 inc vat and fitting of 205/55's which is still good value for money.
