Autocar Headline - New Civic Type R is WRX basher
#1
What about this one then?
Only 200bhp and fwd - I think not. Especially as it is only then compared to Alfa 147 and MG ZS.
Mind you power to weight is probably greater than new WRX and top speed is 150mph.

Hey Tigger, just because my user name is IntegraR, you assume I drive an Integra?
Jokes, I do, and believe it or not, the new CTR is actually heavier than the current Teg.
Officially, it is around the same 0-60 as my Teg, which doesnt make it a WRX basher, no matter how much I like Honda's.
Itll be nice, fast, but I think Autocar are being a bit overzealous about it beating a WRX, though Ill be interested to see 0-100 times.

The old one std v std is !!!!
ITR and CTR could keep with WRX's and maybe pass, but its a lot harder work. It certainly won't be a basher, but it may surprise you.
I surprise a lot of people in my Grandad car, no one really expects to be passed by a Civic, and many people don't know the Type R logo.

Autocar review model
IF it exists outside of a computer THEN

Headlines are headlines. Designed to catch the attention. The actual article never mentioned the WRX. I have just read it and if I was Honda I wouldn't be that happy. It looks worse than the WRX IMHO. Souless car.
I looked at an Integra b4 my WRX purchase, I would've even considered the Civic but not now after the write up. It sounds quick but give any average driver 200+ horses and give the car fwd, well all I can see is a lot of smoke and axle judder. AWD rules......
It is 5k cheaper though.......

I have to say I've ordered a new WRX but I have a real soft spot for the Honda Type-R range! I very nearly bought a Teg, I absolutely love the screaming of the engine all the way up to 8000 rpm not so keen on its cornering though...the one I test drove seemed a bit wayward. If it had been as fast 0-60 as a scoob then I may well have been tempted! not sure about the shape of the new civic though....the new integra looks nice though!! just a shame it isn't coming here shortly!

One of the strangest articles they have written. They use the sensational headline, but then read the article, remembering they said the S2000 was "biggest disapointment of last year" in their eyes.
They complain about the steering feel and brakes, and say its similar to the S2000 !!.
Also they dont like the looks.
Seems like a slight step back form the Integra R ?

Some thoughts
New civic will be good, but power to weight is lower than Integra. Think torque to weight about the same. New Civic is around 100kg heavier than the Integra.
Teg's power to weight is about the same as the "old" UK scoob, and a fair bit more than new UK WRX. IIRC the new civic has similar power to weight as new uk WRX.
Some interesting figures (all from same source and generally consistent)
60 to 100 mph (after traction ceases to be an issue)
Integra R 9.8 seconds
UK Scoob 9.3 seconds
UK WRX 11.2 seconds
No figs yet for new Civic, but I suspect it will be in the 10's
Get the feeling though the new civic R is a bit more sanitised than the old one, and certainly less raw than the 'Teg.
And ugly as hell
Won't be swapping the 'Teg for a Civic just yet....
On the move, (and lets face it the traffic lights GP 0 to 60 is for saddo's ) I think
the new Civic may well have a slight edge on the WRX (especially at the top end), but it will be close.
Still, its 5k cheaper......

Chins, its not necessarily a step back from the Teg, in that there is a new Teg as well, so shouldnt be viewed as the current Integra's replacement (Edit, in the UK it may be, not sure if Teg is coming here or not anymore ).
Honda need to realise that the Civic will appeal to a different market sector than what the Integra does, pull their corporate finger out, and get the new Teg over here, because all indications are that the new Teg is a definite step forward over the current one, and would give the new WRX a good run for its money.
It will be a good car, but Honda have had to appeal to the changing market, and provide something easier to live with than its previous Type-R, because the first thing British mags do, is go "its just too raw" or "its oh so uncompromising". Well duh, its a fricking Type-R!! if you want comfort, they have a VTi model too!! mags hey.
Ill give it a go, but dont think Ill change from my Teg, not unless it changes my mind.

Funny how the only "adverse" comments seem to surround the fact that the car drives like its bloody supposed to
LOL you want comfort, buy a WRX....
