Imports/Scams/...

Perhaps I'm paranoid, but I can see a scam here for people with grey imports:
If someone knocks on your door claiming to be the police, just be damn sure they are who they say they are.
If someone wants you to stop in the street and the have a handy low loader, likewise ensure that they're kosher.
I can foresee lowlife trying this on as a way of nicking cars in the UK...
I really hope I'm just being stupid, but do be careful as always.

Sounds possible, I heard about a similar scam once.(ie,fake police conning people into handing over their cars with all docs enclosed)
I guess the answer is to insist on only handing the car over at your local police station.
God forbid it ever happens to anyone on this BBS. Scam or genuine !!!

If I ever get stopped by the Plod and they say we want to check your motor over matey.
If they were to say, "Sorry, it's on the stolen register so we'll have to confiscate it" I will not surrender it immeadiatley, they have my details and I'd be aware that if I was to dispose of the said vehicle I could be prosectued under the stolen goods act. I would also like to see documentary evidence of this register and the cars details on it before handing it over. For all you know they could be talking to anyone and you take their word for it because of their authorotive standing.
I remember on Watchdog last night that a couple who had a stolen Landcruiser held onto theirs for 3 months before being told to hand it over to the police. I'm sure that many people have made mods to their car and wouldn't want to lose them, I'd remove them and put the car back as standard as I'd received it.
