PRESS RELEASE received tonight.
Apparently next weeks U.S. Grand Prix (the first for 9 years) will not be televised live by ITV.

According to ITV the USGP may attract 5 million viewers, compared with 25.5 million viewers of Coronation Street and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

However, if you happen to subscribe to ITV2 (a pay channel) you can see the race live.

They have condesendingly agreed to broadcast a taped version of the race 4 hours later.

I think this STINKS!!!

Well thats my opinion anyway,

What more would you expect form ITV

The commercial breaks - welcome back and DC has crashed/hit somebody/loose nut in cockpit etc

Is this the backdoor into pay per view?

Two simple issues with that

1. the USGP ain't next week, coz Hockenheim is this week and they need more than a week to move the Gp "circus" around

2. The first in 9 years ??? Well I suppose last years event at Indy didn't count for championship points then

Ooops,
Just quoting from the Press Release, and I didn`t bother to check dates etc.
Richard, your right of course, the US Grand Prix is on 28th-30th Sept at Indianapolis.

But dates etc aren`t what this post is about . . . .
My issue is that ITV television coverage is postponed in preference of more bloody Soap Operas. Thin edge of the wedge, I reckon!

Cheers

Yup, ITV2 is one of the "free" channels on my cable package.

Might just watch it on RAI Uno and listen to the commentary on Radio 5 out of spite

ITV2 may be free to air on cable but what about on sky digital?

These cable folk kindly cut up our road about 7 years ago to put the box in but have not "activated" it.

I'm not sure they can do this...
Isn't F1 a "listed" event like wimbledon that has to be free?
Not bloody happy about it anyway.
Guess its another complaint to the head of ITV (like I did last year)
Not that it'll do any good.
ITV, what a bunch of ******* amateurs

Not much help at the moment, but ITV digital, and Sky are discussing a joint venture, so that they can provide a rival to NTL and provide a combined package.

At least you get sky sports extra, us cable lot can't. I'm planning on cutting the cable back to the minimal pack, and getting sky plus, should be out in November, get the best of both worlds

David,

i agree - even though i am a Corrie fan, i would rather see the GP live. However the number of Corrie re-schedules for football recently is _very_ irritating

However, don't just knock ITV - i remember the BBC showing _golf_ (talk about watching paint dry) instead of Murray's rantings!!!

25.5 million V 5 million- why shouldnt they move it to the cable channel with other minority interest sports

personaly cant think of two more boring things to watch, at least if i was forced to watch corrie it would be over in half an hour.

i went to the UKGP in 1999- loud yes, exciting no, queing for the burger was more exciting and involved more passing as well.

If you feel that strongly, take down your aerial and get Sky digital. No ITV.

Your protest lodged. Knackers to ITV.

Pah ! That's a frikkin' joke..

Sky are offering their Premiere Tickets covering some 60 games a year for £60 (in addition to your Sky Sports 1/2/3 costs)

Bring back BBC + Match of the day coverage I say, and you got lots more for your money too.

I'm mad at Satellite channels that have the money to buy up the rights for football coverage and then give fans no other choice but to spend big £££ to watch things they paid pennies for before.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Well look at this way,
It means there are less Americans on TV which is always a good.
And they are in there rights not to screen it live as long as they show it. They done this last year. So you have until the 22nd Sept to get ITV Digital.
They used to do a trial period (When it was On Digital,) if so simply wait until the end of August or later ask for the free 30 day trial period watch ITV2 for US GP and return it back to them a few days later saying so you have poor reception or unable to get many of the requested channels. I know a few guys who done it last year and they will probably do it again this year.

Bad news about ITV Chaps!

But hey! Mr Squire and myself will be in Germany at the Ring watching the GP Live on a 100" TV in a nice Bar watching LOL

Sorry as soon as I saw the dates I couldn't resist, tell you what, why not come to the Ring to watch the GP in a way that ITV cannot show it and I don't mean in German

What a ridiculous post.

Corrie - Number 1 soap in the UK
Football - Number 1 sport in the world

Formula 1 - a boring predictable procession, even worse now that there are two Schumachers winning races.

I think ITV made the right decision here!

Its interesting to see fans of other motorsports getting the same treatment that us world and british superbike guys have been getting since they got the contracts to air these two.

Get crap highlights on race day if your lucky, or a rerun the week after in some cases.

You'd think after the beeb saw 122000 of us turn up at brands this weekend they might realise its got quite a large audience.....

Yeah right, I couldn`t agree with you more, its about time some of these more exciting sports got better coverage.
Better than Golf/Snooker (yawn)

Edited cos I missed out the most boring sport (?) of all . . . Bowls.
I guess these are the types of sport that entertain yer average Coronation Street audience. Who in turn are the ones that just stop in and watch telly, hence majority viewers!

Cheers

Sorry, wrong.

Football attracts the largest audiences by far. The premier league gets worldwide audiences of 440 Million per week, the total viewers of france 98 was 38 Billion. The largest ever television audience for any event was a football match in China.

Disagree.

ITV made a pledge to show live qualifying and live races to the British public. Its not as if they haven't known about the USA GP for months.

More people watch Coronation Street (God knows why, just goes to prove that the majority of the viewing public are too stupid to know better) than football. Yet Coronation Street gets moved for that

There is NO consistency

As for Football being no 1 sport in the world???? Don't get me started on that. I think you will find that Globally there are sports which attract higher attendance and viewing figures than bl$$dy football.

Who gives a flying **** if football has a large audience, its still played by arrogant ***** with an IQ about 1/2 that of their boot size.

And as for the people who live and die for it.......

Coronation street, its really a joke soap isnt it? I have to tolerate the missus watching it sometimes, I just take the **** constantly out of the silly storylines and dull acting until she gives in. It works, trust me!
