Steve Mcccccbuloch you are missing the point here,You are comparing 2 different things.Subaru 1280kgs first of all and to get this right is the 208bhp version. The later ones (240upwards) are 1340kgs and 1400kgs for the very latest.Do u know how fast is a 208bhp 1240kgs subaru is? VERY SLOW.0-100KMS (the right way) 6.5secs,compare this with a standard skyline of 0-100 5.4 and you can spot the difference. You are forgetting subaru's unreliable engine and gearbox wont take any more than 350-360 which is way slower than ANY 400bhp skyline.Do u know what u need to do to get 400bhp out of a skyline???? Do u? Exhaust, filter, boost upgrade.do u know how much u need to spend for a 400bhp subaru 1240kgs? I think around £30 and thats totally unreliable.Do u know whats a 1/4 mile of a 500bhp+ skyline? around 11,5 and going downwards.
And something else:If u wait when it will rain to beat another car+to wait when you will find to race another car on twisty roads with rain because trust me a 400bhp+ skyline will leave to dust even on twisty roads any subaru. So i will advice you not to play with fire.Go and race S3s,328s,emm 325s Evo3-4s and stop spending your money on braking subaru engines, gearboxes to get than 1BHP more.THERE IS NO COMPETITION BETWEEN SKYLINES AND SUBARUS!!
-Even a 400bhp cossie will give you a fair race for your 20K P1 and 22b....
And Steve McBullox what do u drive now? a skoda?

My car (Type RA) when standard was 276bhp and weighes about 1230kgs thats puts it about 225bhp/per ton and sub 5 seconds 0-60.

Standard GTR 34 V spec with 276bhp is what about 164bhp/ton okay 101% of them dont stay at 280PS though .

For a GTR to achieve 225bhp/ton it needs 378bhp

Its all about power to weight .

A 500bhp skyline would have 297bhp/ton

A 362bhp RA would have 297bhp/ton

Skyline divide bhp by 1.68 and scoob divide by 1.22

So I arent scared of skylines until they seriously exceed 400bhp and then they have a small advantage .

Plus I cant get one in me garage , go figure .

Well somebody's mum...

It may be that in a straight line (like a drap strip) a skyline is prehaps a better bet once a few 10s of thousand £ has been spent on it, but out on track they are easy meat for even a PPP UK

Either that or the drivers can't

Emm, yeah its true if the skyline driver is disable and can't accelerate.Yeah if u spend ££ on a skyline you can beat the speed of light

Even a standard UK spec SUbaru can beat a 316.Its true.

Subarus are so fast specially in snow and going down on a mountain.

A lot. They are only 300bhp the WRC ones.So what? Go and buy a skoda or a peugeot 206 its really fast because they rally them.

An R34 has a small top speed advantage but not much in it on the road I suspect. 60-80 in 4th is 4.0s for an R34, 4.3s for an RS Focus and 3.5s for my RB5; 70-90 in 3rd is 3.7s, 4.2 and 3.6 respectively. Also, around the MIRA wet handling track the R34 was 50.8s vs 48.0s for an RB5. So the Subaru is more nimble.
Just a few interesting facts.
Cheers

I had a 300bhp scoob and once i raced an RA and i beat him to my surprise.80KGS and a shorter gearbox wont make such difference as for those 0-60 (4.4) i wouldn't believe them.So a 993biturbo won't be any faster than an RA.Also when i had the subaru i raced an EVo 6 and he couldn't beat me.They say they 've got 4.3 or something stupid like that.An M3 Evo 321bhp can easily beat an Evo 6.They say an EVo M3 got 5.4...So how is this possible? I'm not saying everybosy should have a skyline but just don't compare them...I'm glad there are so many other cars around otherwise wouldn't be fun eating subarus for lunch...

Must admit I do like skylines but I found they were a touch too big and heavy and expensive for my tastes.

Had a bit of a convoy with a guy with a white one and thumbs up from him and I waved to him. I think its called on the road mutual respect.

Type RA:

This is me talking behind the nick steve blah blah. This thread started because Steve is an idiot but I wish everybody on scoobynet was like you.You are an example of a true fast car lover....The point also behind this thread is to show how stupid people get when they start fighting with other fast cars.Subaru owners stop fighting with cossies, whats the point?? All nice fast cars are good for different purposes...I once had a scoob and i liked it a lot.Now i have a different car and i would still be up for subaru meetings....Its always fun fast cars to gather together-

Not steve but me

Thats me talking not steve

I love the X versus Y threads and I just try and add a bit of humour and tongue in cheek comments. It also works a treat on EVOs owners .

Cool

LOL @ this thread... I'm a happy skyline owner whose car doesn't weigh 1670kg

Different strokes for different folks, but personally much prefer the handling of the skyline to my previous scooby. And with 400bhp I've not owned anything faster and the only thing I've driven which was faster was a 580bhp skyline

BTW PWR isn't everything or you'd have cossie powered westy's instead of scooby's/skylines/evos

i was too slow in getting rid of my 99 subaru to buy an r33 the r33 was on a P reg might have been older but i know which is the better car if you were to add 200bhp to an impreza i think you might have too think about new engines if you do it to an r33 they love it and they would still be a baby in the skyline range

Yep due to the lard you need to add 200bhp

If you could add 200bhp to a scoob you would need to add 400bhp to a skyline

GTR34Vspec 1690kgs
RA 1230kgs

Both come with 280PS which is 276bhp

The GTR is 460kgs heavier there to have a better power to weight ratio is must have to have 37% more bhp than the scoob JUST to have an equal PWR. Or to put it in simple terms for every 100bhp a scoob has a GTR needs 137bhp to be equal.

Add 1 bhp to a scoob you need to add 1.37bhp on a GTR . It is do able on a GTR though upto a poitn then it costs big time .

Like I said I like skylines saw the pictures of Blowdogs and that is a serious peice of kit.

Does seem stupidly easy to get 400bhp though

Hmmm this sounds very much like the sad to*ser with the so called 350bhp Scoob ala Scoobybeast...

I sure hope your mom dont live in the same place - as is she does I would'nt want to be there

The reason I could sort of tell, is that your English is appalling - but then you are'nt English - not that theres anything wrong with foreigners - not at all - just you - what a TW*T you are

Of course Skylines are better than Scoobs - I know they are, and they cost a hell of a lot more in the first place

A 400 bhp Skline is not match for a 360 bhp Scoob though - that said anything over 500bhp would be........

I am also aware that it is easy to modify these cars - only someone from Mars would realise this wasnt the case. I didnt think people from the Med were that stupid - my friends from there are not - but you - what a f*cker you are!

I tire of this thread.....

Type RA - Did I read elsewhere that you in Bristol... If so, How about we meet and compare cars someday? I read your car is fairly standard, performance wise so is mine it just has exhaust + induction kit + uk ECU, though lots of other handling type goodies (suspension, brakes etc etc), we could post some piccies here and both do reviews! Seriously - our cars though often compared here are extremely different (expecially an RA with low ratios and 1230kgs vs a long geared R33 with 1530kgs)!

Hey Mr Anonymous

I have been in standard Skylines, modified and highly modified ones

I have been looking to buy one for a couple of month now

I have nothing but respect for the Skyline community

My issue was that I didnt feel that a 400bhp was a match for my car
I was looking for a reasonably modified R34 (I mentioned the 1670kg as this is what I had read - and this is what I felt from driving one - at the end of the day the potential of these cars is awesome - but above say 600bhp the costs start to stack up!)

(BTW I dont have a standard sti5 - well not least from a few weeks ago! - yeah I've spent a fortune... but so what - thats my perogative)
Oh and I've owned a 420bhp Escort Cosworth to compare to a Scoob as well - what do I know - I obviously know nothing...

and I've driven most of the Exotica cars as well........

Thumbs up

Steve,

I agree with a lot of what you have said... But I'd be interested to know a couple of things - How much did it cost you to build a reliable 3?0bhp in your scooby? I'm sure I read that it was ~£30k (for which money you could have had a 650-700bhp skyline!)

What speeds are you talking about? At low speed I'd agree tuned scooby has the advantage, but my even my 'baby' spec machine is quick once at higher speeds (three figures) where PWR is less important than airflow etc...

And to the skyline 'owner' pretending to steve's mum, give up and grow up

Jon

Boring thread. Skylines are magnificant cars but pound for pound the import SCoobs are much better value.

Skylines tread into Porsche land and to be honest I'd take a
Porker every time.

Also in 2 years I have never come across a Skyline that can match my Scoobs ability to go in and out of traffic and accelerate well on UK roads. Its too big and the electronics too intrusive.

As for costs, trout's 363hp cost about £5-6k in mods, not exactly £30... An I know someone with more like 400 for the same money.

IN know people that have over 500hp in a scoob, and it hasn't cost the earth. certainly less than an imported r34 un modified.

I would really like a skyline though, for open tracks they look the business, and I bet they just eat up the roads.

Too big for my local roads (and garage) at the moment, as I live in the sticks.

Paul
