Oi, Evo Owners - Modding and Warranty question
#1
IMHO
Buying a new/sub 3y/o Scooby and modding it in any way, doing track days etc can affect the warranty unless it is via the Prodrive route. Is the same true of New/nearly newEVO's? and what sort of duration/miles is an Evo warranty bought from a Mitsi Dealer/Ralliart
I had a few tweaks done to my MY99 and the dealership i got it from where shall we say 'very understanding', it seems to me readingf recent posts that IM/dealers are clamping down so the only route you can go is the Prodrive route wuith the associated costs, in effect a Monopoly.

Not too sure on the mileage, but the warranty is three years, as mines just ran out on my T reg 1999 Evo6.
Mods wise its the same, you need to find an understanding dealership.Certainly the dealership where i had alot of warranty work* done knew the car had been tracked few times and didnt have a problem with it, in fact the service manager said to me "its the only place you can open the Evo up safely" so certainly better than Subaru dealers in the respect.
*Warranty work was because of an intermitant knocking noise, they stripped gearbox twice, centre diiff, rear diff..... only to find it was the front struts, which i`d told them it was when it first went in!
It has to be said though that even the "Ralliart" dealerships are`nt asgood as a specialist, though thats the case with Subaru`s tooo aint it

Interestingly (maybe ), one of the mags (Autocar I think) had a letter very recently from someone who had been told by a Mitsu dealer that he had invalidated his warranty by using his EVO on track. Don't know whether this was just one dealer being a bit of a ****, but it certainly rang bells with a thread on here a while back with IM saying the same about scoob warranties following track use.

There is no mileage restriction on an evo warranty(3 yrs unlimited)
Using it on a trackday will have no effect on your warranty.
Finding an understanding dealer who will turn a half blind eye is the answar.

Are you saying that track days and modding do not effect the warranty in any way or that the dealership needs to be sympathetic to keep the warranty - if you know what i mean

Using it on a trackday unmodded will not affect your warranty.
Racing is not allowed and will affect your warranty if found out,!!
Mods will only affect your warranty if the warranty coy finds out about them.
