This is neat www.confused.com - the best insurance quote engine by miles. First visit is a little painful (lots of details to fill in) but thereafter, just plug in your profile and you'll save loads of dosh.

Try Barclays direct, they insured my STi Import last yearfor just over £1000. I took their privelege package which included full UK recovery, 45 days European including recovery & Track days with no increase in premium. Last year they were guaranteing to beat the best quote you could get. They only beat Norwich Union by £10 but all the extras made it worth it. Also they did not want a Tracker, only a cat1 alarm
Dirct Line covered Imports then but they were only £30 cheaper & wanted a tracker fitted
Good luck & let me know how you get on
Stuart
Forgot to mention Insured for +20% on std power. They did not want a list of mods, just the max power increase which you have to go up in increments of 10%

Admiral at £1028 last month with no tracker on 98 WRX. Be careful though they tried to have us over on the price. £1028 on the phone and then £1089 on the paperwork and then when I phoned up to question it, it had risen to £1118. A quick moan with a supervisor and a check of the ALWAYS recorded phone call tape confirmed I was no liar. I hate the bast4rds, thieving gits.
30+years full no claims and named driver over 30
We did have quote with A plan for £649 but that had a £500 excess.
Good luck with the sharks

I use Norwich union..I looked at all the big names and they are about the same. I pay about £700 for the scoob , the trouble is I have a Picasso and an MR2 as well and they have a deal with RAC for cover plus my wife driving which makes comparisons difficult.
My advice is go for a name you recognise.
Interesing..... I look back at my old insurance premiums (Astra GTE total theft magnet..stolen five times in Manchester, replacement Astra GTE (white, how fashions change)stolen god knows how many times BMW 1.8 and for the MR2 which I've had for 13 years
Insurance seems cheaper now...lets step back to 1987, "Spender" is on the telly driving a Sierra Cosworth , theft of cars in Central Manchester is running at one in every 25 cars on the road, the insurers won't insure me for a golf GTI because I'm under 30, Jeremy Clarkson gets pissed on 2 pints of Stella and I pay one and a half grand for insuring an MR2 plus £500 excess.
Oh! I have a clean licence.
Sorry to have to say it but insurance is a lot cheaper now (flamesuit prepared!!)

I have copied the atatched off the Insurance Forum from last year.
I KNOW ITS WAY OUT OF DATE FOR PRICES but it was the quickest way I could find to give you the numbers you wanted. I used it last year as the basis of my ringing around exercise, I hope it helps (its on page 24 or 25 if you want to access it

Hi all,
I have recently worked through a number of Insurance companies to try an get my renewal down from £976 from Bell Direct (0800 140 180). Last year it cost me £620 that's a 57% increase!!!!!
Well this is what I found out for fully comp with protective NCB and £250 excess.
The car each company quoted for is a 5 door MY97 P the only mods being 16" gold speedline wheels, blacked out windows and cruise control, great for staying within the law. Alarmed with a Sigma M30. A Clean license and full NCB.
Master Quote (0870 241 4543) would not quote.
GreenLight (01277 263 030) would not quote as higher than best quote. This happened a lot.
RAC (0800 015 4435) £1444
Norwich Union Direct (0800 068 2668) £870
AxA Direct (0800 013 8292) £1326
Lloyds TSB (0800 917 4899) £690 underwritten by Churchill
Hill House Hammond (0800 068 3866) would not quote but passed to.
Performance side to HHH (01733 345 761) would not quote as higher than best quote.
Hastings Direct (0800 001 066) would not quote but passed to.
Performance side (0800 068 2939) would not quote as higher than best quote.
Budget Insurance Services (0800 521 408) £925
Quote Seekers (0800 068 3266) would not quote as needed to see an Engineers report regarding cruise control.
Admiral (0800 600 800) £1300
Direct Motor Line (01473 346973) same company as Admiral
Prudential (0800 300 300) would not quote as car needs to be garaged.
Peoples Choice (0800 11 22 33) £850
Auto Direct (0800 085 5456) could not get through at several times of the day.
AA (0800 444 777) £797 told that if the car had been standard £696 underwritten by Churchill
Privilege (0845 246 8485) £863 need a tracker fitted and car not covered for theft this must be covered by Tracker.
Direct Line (0845 246 8913) same company as Privilege.
Royal Sun Alliance (0800 300 220) would not quote as car alarm not listed? No Sigma alarms where listed the woman said!!!
Abbey National (0800 328 6400) Do not insure this vehicle.
Kwik Fit (0870 054 4815) £1000 but need to know % of the blackout film. Told that if the car had been standard £682
Churchill (0800 200 300) would not quote.
Schofield Insurance £1067
Blackpool Insurance (01253 393106) £967
Tesco (0845 300 44 00) £770 with £250 excess, £727 with £350 excess.
Barclays (0870 600 1414) £1592
that's the lot...
I know that location and the ability to garage the vehicle may bring the price down. But its getting hard to find a good competitive price for your pride and joy.
One Insurance company stated that due to the increasing volume of grey Imports the car may be re-classified as Insurance group 20 where at the moment it's 16/17 she said.
This would certainly put the cat among the pigeons.
regards.

Gents,
Many thanks for all your help and advice. This is when these chat boards really prove thier exsistances.
I pasted on the Vict. Insurance phone to my brother and they quoted £750 for an imported WRX STI Version 6 coupe R !!! Which considering his current insurer wants £1700 is a tremendous saving.
So, the beers are on me....:-)
Many thanks again.
