Just drove a P1 for the first time and...

..have to say that it wasn't what I thought it would be. I was expecting to be blown away by it. I have a modded S3 to 275bhp/300lbs/ft, and though the P1 felt slightly quicker to 60 ,there really wouldn't be much in it. Even when I took a couple of roundabouts the grip was about the same as the S3(which has konis and eibachs). Must admit though the steering and the brakes(uprated) felt much better. And then theres that flat 4, nothing else sounds as good.

So should get a go in Simon Burton's P1 - slightly modified!
Such a giggle and very quick and smooth power delivery, much better than the one I tried at a dealers when they had a weak moment and I was waiting for my car during it's service!

Why did you expect so much more if you already have a car that has 275BHP and 300LB/ft of torque?
Did you perhaps not see a spec list for a P1 prior to the test drive?
it has 276BHP and 260lb/ft of torque, so really, if you were expecting to get blown away when stepping into it from a car with the same BHP and more torque, then perhaps expectations were set a little high.
I think perhaps you should look at it as a starting point to tune from or something, or get one thats tuned up already.

Because in the motoring press, "astounding!", "awesome", "supercar rivalling performance" are the words used to describe P1's et al, that is not to say I was not impressed with the overall package, but it was not as quick as I had hoped. I still want one though .

IMHO
S3 Has a totally crap chassis and is about as fun to drive as a canal barge. Perhaps yours is suitably moded and steers better. The one I borrowed to test was standard, it handled OK compared to an astra or such but with zero feed back, no sense of where the limit was or anything, it also rolled like a drunken sailor before under steering to oblivion....
Compare a standard P1 to a standard S3 and I think perhaps you would have been impressed.....

I cannot dissagree with you on that point, standard S3 is a bit dull and the steering IS appaling, suitably modded S3 a totally different proposition (as several sti drivers would testify), and though steering much better, still not very nice.

Listen, if we are going to get in to the whole scooby v S3 debate, just as you could go on about steering blah blah, I could talk about crap build, worse residuals. If I had it in for scoobies, would I be on a scooby forum, and it may have a golf based chassis but that doesn't stop you from modding it to be something more focused. If you were to drive such an s3 you would be very supprised.

What people are trying to say is.... dont compare a modified car to a non modified one...
The way you should have looked at it is like this...
" i have spent alot of money on my S3 to make it 'fast', and when i test drove the P1 it was quicker to 60 with no modifications/standard..... and handles as well as a car with £1000 modified suspension set up..."
Just imagine what the P1 would be like if you through the money at it like you have the S3...

Listen, I think some of you have got your self worked up about the fact that I may think the S3 is anywhere near the car a P1 is. It isn't, simple as that. So why the f**k are you going on about throwing money at a P1 and see what happens, get a life. I posted just to say that the P1 wasn't as quick as thought it might be. If this is the type of one sided "don't insult my car c**p" that people reply with, then I might as well go and log on to a gay chatroom for some more knowlegeable views on cars.

Just chill out, you now look as if you are just on here to get a rise, who insulted your car as such, there where a few comments regarding the std S3, you modded yours so perhaps you wern't that happy with it, the S3 reviews said the handling left a lot to be desired.
Perhaps you would be better posting on th Audi BBS if you just want people to agree with you

I was after views, the fact seems to be that if you are not on here to backslap other scooby owners then you must be the enemy, if someone cannot see that i was not critsising or even comparing, but sure enough it began to degenerate into scoobies are better thread

They always go this way, mate.
You could say you've got a Ferrari F1 car and it wouldn't handle, accelerate or look as good as P1, 22B, STI, etc.

You got views, you did not like them and you threw your toys out of your pram.
Because you did not like what you got you got defensive then offensive and play into the hands of wind-up merchants.

views are one thing, but if you cannot make an unbiased point (and I think you will find that they were) without bieng accused of heresy, then yes, if I find some toys I will throw them.

Reading this thread it seems Scoobycar threw the first insult.
I'm not suprised by Loddrik2's observations. Ive owned an MTM S3 as well as a slightly modded P1. The S3 never felt slow in comparision to the P1. The huge torque on a chipped S3 really helps, and the shove in the back is the equal of most Scoobies.
A lot of crap has been written in the press about the S3. I expected to watch every Scooby pass me on an SIDC track day a few years ago. For a car with crap steering that rolls and turns slower than an oil tanker, it did ok. The weakest part being the brakes that expired after half a track day. It certainly suprised a few Impreza's.
Yes a P1 or UK STI is a better drivers car, it gels together as a package, BUT the S3 is not that far behind.

Lodrick mate, u think we were born yesterday.. "I just came on here to discuss..." rubbish. You know u were stoking fires. Well done, you succeeded. If you can't take it go to the Audi forum.
Don't see any of us getting upset do ya?
For the record, Audi S3 looks great inside and out, P1 pees all over it. In fact my StiV5 pees all over. Never had an S3 even come close to mounting a serious challenge on the road. Pound for pound Scooby wins every time, S3 is over priced. From the class below.

import sti, you are a fool, when have I critsised imprezas. But have you driven a 275 S3, do so and then you can comment, my whole point was that I had just had a half hour drive in a P1 so I know how quick they are. If I wanted to have bragging rights over "my cars faster than yours" then I would go and get a tuscan s.
